A Palestinian-American teenager will stay in an Israeli prison for at least another week, as calls from US lawmakers for his release intensify. Mohammed Ibrahim, 16, has been detained since February 2025 after accusations of throwing rocks at Israeli settlers in the West Bank. Despite international attention, his court hearing on Wednesday did not result in his release, with the next one set for 9 November.

Ibrahim, hailing from Palm Bay, Florida, claims to have confessed under duress following threats and beatings. Although the Israel Prison Service refrains from commenting on individual cases, they assert operations are lawful and supervised. US officials, including the State Department and the US embassy in Jerusalem, have been actively engaged, but no agreement has been reached.

Mohammed's plight attracted heightened scrutiny following the death of his cousin, Said Musallet, allegedly at the hands of Israeli settlers. The family contacted US officials earlier this year but felt more attention came only after media coverage and political intervention increased. US Senators and Representatives have penned a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, urging expedited efforts for Mohammed's release.

Defence for Children International – Palestine reports Mohammed has suffered weight loss and scabies during his detention. His father, Zaher Ibrahim, described the ordeal as a nightmare, citing his son’s health problems and the harsh treatment witnessed during court appearances. He expressed concern for Mohammed's well-being given the alleged mistreatment.

Key Takeaways:

  • Mohammed Ibrahim remains in detention despite growing US governmental pressure.
  • His family's efforts gained traction after increased media and political attention.
  • Reports highlight concerning health and treatment conditions in prison.

I guess throwing rocks at American service personnel might have got him arrested?  Not sure I have any sympathy with this idiot.

I read he was born in Florida. That makes him an American.

The news should read, American of palistinian decent.
