Paetongtarn Shinawatra visited her father, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, at Klong Prem Central Prison in Bangkok, expressing concerns about his mental health and the circumstances of his detention. The prison warden invited Thaksin to join the Dhammanavawang programme, focused on inner development through Buddhist teachings. This comes amid changes being reviewed by Justice Minister Pol Maj Gen Rutthapon Naowarat regarding the medical treatment and detention policies for inmates, raising questions about Thaksin's possible release.

Thaksin, currently detained, may face obstacles in securing medical treatment outside prison. Critics suggest the adjustments are intentionally hindering his release, especially with the 2026 election approaching. Paetongtarn mentioned her father's advanced age and supported the idea of him being released for rest, emphasizing there is no benefit to him remaining in prison. She denied speculation about political motives influencing her father’s situation but refrained from discussing the attorney-general's recent move to appeal the order to prosecute Thaksin under Section 112.

The Dhammanavawang programme, which Thaksin is invited to join, is designed to incorporate Buddhist teachings for personal development, aiming to alleviate suffering among participants, including inmates. Paetongtarn, distancing herself from politics, is focusing on her father's well-being, leaving political matters to her party. The situation highlights ongoing tensions around Thaksin's imprisonment and the political dynamics in Thailand, reported The Nation.

Key Takeaways

  • Justice Ministry reviews may delay Thaksin's medical release.
  • Paetongtarn focuses on family, stepping back from politics.
  • The Dhammanavawang programme offers Thaksin a path to personal development.

Oh boo hoo, is he more special than the other inmates? He isn't in their for his "benefit", he is there for the "benefit" of justice and equality (he isn't any more special than anyone else in prison) .....suck it up buttercup! Live like the peasants for a change, it'll do you some good 👍

Let him first him his tax of 17 billion THB that would relieve a lot of a stress for others, look those in flooded areas... He is not the only one in jail who has problems.. So that is normal life as he is used to do and let do everything to make his life as comfortable as can be because he has money.. Now in jail he has more to spend than the average inmate    so don't put attention to him and his family.. They don't care about others too than only about themselves.. Welcome in the real world

He doesn't have time to join another programme. His assigned task as Supervisor of a sewer team and teaching English language to inmates keeps him busy through the day.

I can see him getting ordained as a Buddhist monk just like Suthep did years ago. It's just like a

" get out of jail pass " for free.

Folks, this is a national crisis....Tony's mental health is not good in Jail...

How about the other 99.9999 % of the inmates, how is their mental health?......I guess only Tony's mental health is important...

Sadly for Thaksin, his 'prison record' from a year or so ago has made even open-minded people like me rather cynical.

I think this time round is going to be a bit tougher than last time.

And yes, I pity his mental health and negatively impact the more 18 billion he has to pay to justice.

What a crybaby.

Has there been any chatter about him consulting fortune tellers?  There was a lot about that when he ran off years ago, there was one in CM who was of Japanese origins that he was said to favor.

Do the time and shut up

It’s impressive she’s been able to take focus off TikTok posting for a change.

His brown evenlopes will continue as usual and his time will not be hard with sleeping arrangements and food
