Eleven remanded over alleged vehicle transfer fraud

Six civil servants and five agents have been remanded in Ipoh while investigators examine allegations that falsified documents were used to arrange illegal vehicle ownership transfers.

The 11 suspects — seven men and four women — are being held for six days, until September 14, after a remand application was allowed by Magistrate Norizan Riduan.

The investigation concerns 16 vehicle registration numbers and is being handled by the Perak Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Documents allegedly submitted to JPJ

According to an investigation source, the alleged offences took place in 2025. The agents are suspected of conspiring with civil servants to submit falsified paperwork connected with vehicle ownership transfers.

The documents were allegedly filed with the Road Transport Department, known as JPJ, as part of the transfer process.

Authorities have not announced charges. The remand is to allow investigators to continue their enquiries.

Suspects detained after statements

The 11 people were detained at about 10pm on Tuesday after attending the Perak MACC office to give statements, according to the source.

They arrived at the Magistrate’s Court at about 9.15am on Wednesday for the remand hearing.

The case centres on whether official vehicle-transfer procedures were improperly used through false documentation. Any criminal liability will depend on the evidence gathered and any future decisions by investigators and prosecutors.

Vehicle transfers require proper records

A change of vehicle ownership in Malaysia relies on official registration records and documentation. Buyers and sellers should ensure that any transfer is handled through the correct JPJ process and that documents match the vehicle, registered owner and transaction details.

Using an agent does not remove the need for parties to check that a transfer has been completed lawfully and that official records have been updated.
