Musk’s DOGE Quietly Killed Off After Delivering Almost Nothing

Less than a year after Elon Musk took to the stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference in February, brandishing a gleaming chainsaw to unveil his Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) cost-cutting campaign, the most significant reduction has been the agency’s dissolution itself.

Reuters reported Sunday that Donald Trump’s DOGE was dissolved eight months ahead of schedule.

“It no longer exists,” Scott Kobor, director of the Office of Personnel Management, told Reuters when asked about DOGE. “There is no specific target for staff reductions.”

The early months of Trump’s second term were dominated by DOGE, the Musk-led agency tasked with drastically reducing federal staff and government spending. But the failing agency appears to have done little more than create chaos.

The tens of thousands of federal employees laid off under Musk’s leadership were offered jobs last September after what amounted to months of paid leave. Reports indicate that millions of dollars in interest and fees were lost due to the freezing of government projects, and that some underqualified employees at the Atomic Energy Agency were earning hundreds of thousands of dollars.

According to a Wall Street Journal article published last month, the Tesla billionaire oversaw a $220 billion increase in federal spending during the current fiscal year, excluding interest.

Are you suggesting no children died? Here are two of the many.

Mohammed Taher’s 2-year-old son, Mohammed Hashim, died after DOGE/USAID cuts wiped out their food and medical support.
In Nigeria, Yagana Bulama lost one of her twins when the malnutrition program was shut down.

These aren’t projections — they’re real kids, real names, real deaths.
And that’s before you count the likely thousands more, unnamed and unreported, who suffered and died when the same funding disappeared.

Cruelty is MAGA’s trademark.
Everything Trump touches dies — and reality keeps proving it.

And if evenkeel's comment had any validity, that would justify a claim that because epidemiologists can't predict exactly who will die, then vaccines are useless.

Trump Administration Fights Bid to Get Musk to Testify on DOGE

(Bloomberg) -- The Trump administration is fighting efforts by government workers and contractors to force billionaire Elon Musk to testify in a lawsuit that accuses him of unlawfully directing the dissolution of the US Agency for International Development while he was a senior adviser to the president.

The Justice Department has asked a federal judge in Maryland to block depositions of Musk and two former senior USAID officials, according to a recent court filing. USAID was gutted earlier this year as part of President Donald Trump’s plan to slash the size and reach of the government using mass firings, cancelled grants and the dismantling of agencies.

<snip>

In ruling that the USAID case could go forward, the judge in Maryland noted evidence presented by the plaintiffs of Musk appearing to personally take credit, including a social media post from February in which he wrote, “We spent the weekend feeding USAID into the wood chipper.”

Seeing you're so mentally incompetent you support MAGA, it's likely you're also religious. Show me where in your good book it says you only need to be concerned with children from your own country. Further, you probably don't care about non-white kids in your own country either.

The goal of DOGE was never to save money, it was to dismantle as much of the federal government as possible and change free government services into for profit services, where the profit would go to Trump cronies.

The evisceration of the National Weather Service is a prime example.  They wanted to end free, accurate weather forecasts so that airlines, fishermen, sailors and other would have to subscribe to a paid weather forecast service in order to fly or sail safely.

Come on! Let's not be so harsh toward DOGE. Cutting USAID has "helped to decrease the surplus population" (Charles Dickens' Scrooge). And since resources are finite, better Trump gets (so far) $60 million since January for his golf outings than some kids in an s-hole country get a meal or medical care. PRIORITIES!

We also got to know a punk who calls himself "Big Balls". He's the guy who got beat up by a 15 year old girl in DC and was the reason Trump sent the National Guard into the streets of the Capital.

Get a grip. Where were the kids that "they" starved? How many?

DOGE is not responsible  for  "trying to kill cancer research". That's the public menace Kennedy.

I was no fan of DOGE and believed that alot could have been accomplished had an orderly and well thought out process been undertaken. There were failures and screw ups, so I am not sorry to see the end of DOGE. Your new hero Marjorie Taylor Greene was tasked chair of the  House subcommittee and was a strong promoter of DOGE and the idiocies like cutting Planned Parenthood funding. That's one of the many reasons why I disliked her.

The reality is that aside from Kennedy's debacle at Health, the USA has not suffered to the extent you and others said it would. Public services have not collapsed. FEMA still responded to this year's catastrophes. The largest cuts were to USAID, which reflects the US public's sentiment that US taxpayers money should be spent in the USA and not on ungrateful foreign despot nations. Funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting was to be cut, which I did not agree with, but I can understand why some people don't want the US government in the public media business.  From what I have read, the DOGE cuts were broadly supported by the US taxpayers.

Right—so the argument is:

American taxpayer dollars are sacred —
unless it’s Trump blowing $20 billion on a bailout for an Argentinian mate
or handing out tax cuts to his generous billionaire buddies.
Then suddenly the wallet is wide open.

But when a malnutrition program costs less than one of his golf weekends,
MAGA suddenly discovers fiscal discipline.
And when two-year-olds die after those cuts, you call it ‘a private affair.’

It’s not about taxpayers.
It’s about who you think deserves to live.

Doge Schmoge. How is Big Balls doing?

The mismanaged USAid funds were the cause of the agency shutdown. It's too bad the greed of man in countries like Nigeria causes harm to the innocent.

Lots of assumptions there, my friend. And I have a non-white kid so your little attempt at playing the "race card" is going nowhere quickly.

If you want to give to charities that support the less fortunate, you are free to do so. I do myself.

According to MAGA propaganda only. 😆

BTW, here's how USAID grants to Nigeria have been spent, according to ChatGPT (Copilot)

How USAID Funds Were Used in Nigeria
- Health Programs: The majority of USAID’s support went into HIV/AIDS treatment, malaria prevention, tuberculosis control, and vaccination campaigns. These were managed by NGOs and health partners rather than the federal treasury.
- Education & Governance: USAID funded literacy programs, teacher training, and anti-corruption initiatives, again through implementing partners.
- Humanitarian Assistance: Aid for displaced persons in northern Nigeria was delivered via international relief agencies.

So what's the answer? Keep on funding poor African countries?

We've seen what too much public assistance has done to the poor in the USA. It has made the poor too reliant on the Gov.

President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia told the Financial Times that cuts in aid were “long overdue” and would force countries such as his to “take care of our own affairs”.
