Mid
Toxins found in food from China Imports of popular Chinese fruit, vegetables and food products were blacklisted yesterday after tests found high levels of toxic contamination and cancer-causing chemical residues. The tests were conducted by the Department of Medical Science and the Food and Drug Administration on about 11,500 food items. They revealed dangerously high pesticide residues in Chinese spinach, white greens, carrots, celery, pears and collard greens, department chief Paichit Warachit said. Mid
Chinese toy suppliers say job losses mount, but orders remain strong Published: August 17, 2007 snipDespite China's stepped-up public relations campaign, the bad news has kept coming. On Friday, Thailand's Health Ministry said about 10 percent of 11,500 Chinese food products entering its northern border were not up to standard. And Beijing said nearly 15 percent of Chinese food products had failed a recent quality check. That news came in a report which, nonetheless, sought to reassure consumers that tainted products are disappearing from shelves. "Through these efforts, the overall level of China's food quality is steadily rising," stated a 39-page paper from the State Council Information Office, the government's public relations wing. "China is still a developing country and the general level of food safety, including standards and industrialization of production, still has a certain gap with developed countries." China also said this week that it would send officials to the United States to discuss product safety. iht.com and surprise , surprise a white paper .............. The ministry, citing findings from laboratory tests on over 11,000 randomly selected imported Chinese foodstuffs over the past four years, said most of the products contained high levels of harmful chemicals that could cause cancer or otherwise pose a serious health threat. snip nationmultimedia.com
chinthee
My personal favourite is the toothpaste with Mono ethylene Glycol (the chemical used in auto coolant) that caused the recent uproar in the states.
