Deadly Israeli Raid Claims Thirteen Lives in Southern Syria

Thirteen individuals, including children, have tragically died during an Israeli raid in Beit Jinn, southern Syria. According to Syrian state media, the operation led to a fierce confrontation with residents, resulting in a firefight and subsequent air strikes. Syria's foreign ministry has denounced the event as a "war crime" by Israel and called for action from the UN Security Council.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that its troops targeted the Jamaa Islamiya militant group following increased threats against Israeli civilians. During the operation, six Israeli soldiers were injured, three seriously. The IDF reports indicate militants initiated gunfire, prompting a response from Israeli forces, and the raid included air strikes captured on released footage.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a building collapse occurred during the clashes. The IDF claimed all suspects were apprehended or eliminated, and footage depicted intense street fighting. In the aftermath, the local hospital reported receiving several bodies and treating numerous injured individuals.

Israel often justifies its operations in Syria as measures against armed groups. Since the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Israel has sustained a presence in the buffer zone near the Golan Heights, citing security concerns. This area, demilitarised following the 1973 ceasefire, has seen increased tension due to military manoeuvres from both sides.

International efforts to secure peace, including US-mediated talks between Israel and Syria, have yet to achieve a resolution. The ongoing situation has major implications for stability in the region, with both nations vying over security and territorial integrity, reported the BBC.

Key Takeaways

  • Thirteen people, including children, were killed in the Israeli raid on Beit Jinn.
  • The IDF targeted a militant group that asserted self-defence against attacks on Israeli civilians.
  • The UN and international bodies face calls to address escalating conflicts in the region.

IDF missed the murder in Gaza...

Israeli troops invade Syria and Syrians fought back.

Wasn't familiar with "Jamaa Islamiya" so I looked them up. It turns out that they are an Indonesian millitant group, affiliated to Al Quaida who have got involved in Syria and in particular along the Golan Heights.

They have a significant record of attacks on Churches, schools, government facilities and non muslim communities in Indonesia.

So perhaps nor as cut and dried as "Israeli troops invade Syria and Syrians fought back."

Nonsense, they are an Egyptian Sunni movement.

Once again, you defend the indefensible.

For someone who portrays himself as a seasoned and reasonable observer of the international scene you really can be icredibly naive at times Chomper. "Jamaa Islamiya" is an Indonesian affiliate of Al Quaida, who have established a presence on the border between Syria and Israel. They have a long history of attacks on Christians, Non Muslims and foreigners in general in Indonesia, including the Bali bombings, one cannot but presume that they intend to persue simillar acts against Israel. What do you think Israel should do, welcome them with open arms?

The Israeli soldiers were in Syria.

I doubt anyone would argue that fighting a foreign army invading your own country is terrorism, many would think it admirable heroism.

“What do you think Israel should do, welcome them with open arms?”

My comment above would apply equally to any armed force invading Israel.

Please let me know in which way that’s not reasonable.

Maybe some Jews dressed as Muslims and screaming "Death to Israel, death to America". And "Bagels now or never".

Jemaah Islamiya is a designated terrorist group, linked with Al Qaeda, that operated in S.E. Asia, with attacks recorded in Malaysia, Indonesia, Southern Thailand and Southern Philippines.  They are reported to have laid down arms in 2024.

Al Jama'ah Al Islamiyah, also known as JI or Jamaa Islamiya is a Sunni Islamist political party in Lebanon.  They are reported to be still active.

There does not appear to be any strong link between the two.

Yes, not just children who died though was it .

Its often that 13 terrorists died and one of the terrorists was 17 , pro Palestinians then change that to IDF kills 13 children

There you go again making up garbage.

Nobody here has said 13 children have died.

The ‘terrorists’ are ‘alleged terrorists’.

   Israel didn't invade Syria .

Israel invaded some Syrian land adjacent to Israel which was used by terror groups to attack Israel

Try to read what I wrote .

I didn't say that 13 children have died , read it again .

Read the word *OFTEN*

I wont even bother to ask you to retract your claim that I made thing up , because I know you don't do that kind of thing .

What’s this ‘often’ nonsense, we are discussing a discrete event?!

"Often" means something that happens frequently .

Something that usually happens at various times .

"Often" doesn't mean this specific occasion .

Why did Israel invade Syria ?

24 minutes ago, Nick Carter icp said:

OK so you accept Israel did invade Syria.

Now all we have to do is address their claims and their right to invade a sovereign nation.

In the former they have a history of lying while the latter does not exist.

35 minutes ago, Chomper Higgot said:

I have made my point .

My point is that Israel invaded a  small part of Syria , the small part adjacent to Israel .

I have have provided maps to show that .

You still think that Israel invaded all of Syria .

Really no point in  continuing to  discuss that.

I just moved on .

I don't agree with you .

I have made my point, no need to keep repeating myself

Would it be indefensible for Syria to invade a 'small portion' of Israel adjacent to Israel's borders?

Bombing & killing in a sovereign nation. How about the US doing the same to a small portion of Canada near the border?
