The UAE and Thailand celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations this week at the UAE Embassy in Bangkok, coinciding with the UAE’s 54th Union Day. Ambassador Obaid Saeed Obaid Bintaresh Aldhaheri praised the growing partnership between the countries, highlighting strong engagement and cooperation. House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha attended, marking this significant milestone alongside Union Day festivities.

The theme for this year's celebrations, "United," aligns with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s vision for 2025 as the Year of the Society, focusing on social harmony and diversity. Since beginning diplomatic relations in 1975, Thailand and the UAE have strengthened engagement in trade, investment, tourism, and public health. Economic ties have notably flourished, with non-oil trade reaching approximately $7.417 billion (238.75 billion baht), and UAE exports to Thailand valued at $1.22 billion.

The Bangkok Post reports that, from 2020 to 2024, UAE investments in Thailand totalled $383.9 million, while Thai investments in the UAE were $62.1 million. Ambassador Aldhaheri remarked on the progressive vision shared by the two nations, underlining a commitment to human development and sustainability. The Thaiger reported that innovation and shared goals will drive further growth in mutual cooperation.

Key Takeaways:

  • Thailand and UAE marked 50 years of diplomatic ties, coinciding with UAE Union Day.
  • Economic ties include $7.417 billion trade and significant investments in both countries.
  • Both nations focus on innovation, sustainability, and human development.
