Putin Demands Withdrawal of Ukrainian Troops from Donbas

Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a stark warning that Ukrainian troops must either withdraw from the Donbas region or face military action by Russia. Putin’s declaration, made during an interview with India Today, stresses that Moscow is unwilling to compromise over the contested territories. Currently, Russia holds approximately 85% of Donbas.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky firmly rejected any notion of ceding territory, maintaining Ukraine’s position against Russian advances. This statement follows discussions in Moscow involving US representatives, who were exploring a peace plan for the region. Former President Donald Trump commented that the talks were "reasonably good," although he noted that final outcomes remain uncertain, as both Russia and Ukraine need to agree.

The US peace proposal initially suggested transferring Ukrainian-controlled areas to Russian control, but recent modifications were discussed in Moscow. Putin expressed unease with parts of the proposal, highlighting disagreements and unspecified points of contention. His concerns coincided with remarks from Putin's senior foreign adviser, Yuri Ushakov, who stated that the talks failed to yield any compromise due to Russia’s strengthened position following recent military actions.

Ukraine continues to insist on security guarantees before any agreement, accusing Russia of intentionally delaying ceasefire deals. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybhia criticised Putin for "wasting the world's time." Zelensky reiterated that international pressure on Russia remains essential for meaningful negotiations. An updated US peace framework, reportedly more balanced, has been developed following consultations in Geneva.

A separate revelation by Germany's Der Spiegel suggests European leaders are apprehensive about the US negotiations. French President Emmanuel Macron allegedly warned of potential betrayal regarding Ukrainian territorial integrity. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz reportedly advised caution, while Finnish President Alexander Stubb advocated support for Ukraine. The Élysée Palace has refuted these specific comments, while other European leaders have declined to elaborate.

The White House affirmed its dedication to facilitating peace, with US officials actively engaged with both Russian and Ukrainian representatives. Meanwhile, following the full-scale invasion in February 2022, Russian forces continue attempting to strengthen their hold in southeast Ukraine, despite suffering substantial losses, reported the BBC.

Key Takeaways

  • Putin demands Ukrainian withdrawal from Donbas or faces Russian military action.
  • US peace talks propose modifications amid international concern.
  • Ukraine insists on securing guarantees and denounces Russian stalling tactics.

The Russians of course. Then again, Ukraine has drones too and they seem to be more effective than the Russian ones.

  • Popular Post

So the Russians would rise up and depose Putin  but   why ?

and if they don't the Ukrainians will drone him to death and then the Russians will capitulate to Ukrainian demands

  ok I think I got it. 👍

Putin is bluffing. Morons like Witkoff fall for it.

  • Popular Post

So, when the war criminal can't do it by force, just demand it! That'll teach'em!

Just go home where you belong, and the war is over. It's as simple as that, you clown.

  • Popular Post

Well if they want to end the war , give in to Putin more than reasonable demands.

And to get some of their most clever and educated people back (who have fled the country) so the country can actually move forward. And to let the people decide how and who runs the country (that's stretching it, but it's the only way). And to let Russia again be a part of the sports world. And not to forget, to start spending Russia's wealth and money on the people, not on a few oligarchs with all the power.

It's all a given, but some people just can't help themselves, can they.

Trump fat Donnie is in line with Putin. He just publicly scolded Zelensky.

Trump wants Ukraine minerals. He could care less (imo) about Ukraine. And what should an invaded country cede their land to an invader?

And he thinks he will get the minerals from daddy Vlad, Dream on. Wait and see what happens when Trump tries to give up Poland to his puppet master.

It's sad to say, but I see no solution other than Ukraine's capitulation and the abandonment of Russian-speaking territories along the current front line.

Without this, they will continue to advance and then take Odessa, Ukraine's last access to the Black Sea, thus rendering Ukraine completely dependent.

The only other solution would be the internationalization of the conflict, leading to World War III, which nobody wants.

Many reports over the last few days that the Kremlin circles are breaking up, senior members arrested for conspiring against Putin, a Russian general defected to Ukraine, major tactical-level Russian losses on the battlefield ... While it's hard to assess the truth of such reports, it's not obvious that Ukraine is losing this war.

I just don't get why Putin is doing this.Just looking at a world map can't believe how massive Russia is, and he wants more territory,

which has resulted in his country being sanctioned. and thrown out of most sports events.

His problem is that the pre-communist empire of the C19th & early C20th has been lost, and he wants it back ...

Not just Ukraine but Belarus (temporarily in his pocket but no longer regarded as part of the Russian empire), the 3 Baltics, parts of Finland or preferably the lot, and the 5 stans (Kazakh, Uzbek, Tajik, Kygyrz, Turkmen - all conquered in the C19th).

Then there's the Far East rapidly being infiltrated by millions of Chinese settlers and tradespersons - never to be restored to Russian rule if the Chinese imperialists in Beijing have anything to do with it.

So, lots to be going on with, and his first sally isn't exactly progressing as planned.

The forum Harris Walz fans are certainly wanting a blind push in that direction. Presumably thinking anything that hurts Trump is good for them including a 700,000 year nuclear winter🤣

Nobody accuses them of being rational.
