BTS shows the nanny state Thailand is

Nonstop public announcements in the BTS: "Do this, don't do that, attention to not do, attention to do..."

Whether it's how to stand or how to sit or how to behave, BTS riders are constantly reminded by the female voice how to behave.

Subconsciously, hardly anyone notices. This nonstop feeding of behavioral conformity is nothing more than patronizing nanny state applied to everyone.

Perhaps you prefer a NY subway?

Sounds like you need to go back to your libertarian fascist paradise.  Thailand is not for you.

I indeed enjoy the NY subway's calm male voice before the doors close

It's not your country, learn to get over it or go home.

Love it.

I love that small oasis of order in the chaotic mess that is BKK.

No eating or drinking   - Means a tidy space and easier to keep clean

No back packs in rush hour - Means being conscious of others.

Don't hog the stantions        - Means allow space so others my hold on and staedy themselves

Just the three I remember.

I guess if you don't know how to behave you should heed the announcement's.   The reason no one pays attention- as you say- is because they already know how to be clean, polite and respectful.

I don't understand how you can use the terms "fascist" and "libertarian" in the same sentence.

My point exactly, Thais are so well-behaved already, no need to remind them between nearly every stop of how they are 🫡

It's not much different than hearing emergency procedures before taking off in an airplane. After a few times, you just tune it out and go on about your own business and your own thoughts. It sounds like you've let it get under your skin and irritate you more than necessary.

One of the reasons I decided not to learn Thai. I could ride on the BTS oblivious to everything.

They tell you this once you are in the train.

BTW I am waiting for the announcement,  oversized farang should take a truck, not the  BTS during rush hours

I've never heard them say, 'no backpacks at all during rush hour'. I've heard them say do not 'WEAR' your backpack when the train is crowded. Meaning, take it off your back so it's not bumping people behind you.

And when is the train crowded? OK I know all the time but worse in "rush hour"

First time I've ever heard anyone to refer to Thailand as a "nanny state".

Yes, during rush hour is obvious. My point was that they don't say that you cannot have a backpack at all during rush hour. They simply say don't wear it on your back.

Many a subway in Europe or in America, is far worse then the BTS skytrain in Bangkok. If only it was not for some of those unruly foreigners speaking loudly and thinking they are back home.

The announcements are both in Thai and English, but nice try anyway

As another poster pointed out, you heard wrong. Maybe you shouldn't get on the BTS when you're drunk 😂

Just ignore them, problem solved

Thailand is the opposite of a nanny state. The vast majority of Thais are left to sink or swim without advice or help from government.

One reason I settled in TH, not a nanny state, no PC.  Live & let live :coffee1:

Sounds like you hate it here, so what was it that brought you here?

Non stop?

I don’t think so.
I ride the airport shuttle frequently And the only announcements I hear are the upcoming stops and the “ mind the gap”

so let’s stop this “nanny state” approach and let them damage ankles/legs.

Even with all the announcements you will still get a Benidorm Brit haulling a massive back pack on their backs into the BTS.

Still less than a West Virginia American hauling a massive fat pack on their stomach into the BTS.
