Police Vow to Block Criminals After 45 Border Arrests

The Royal Thai Police (RTP) has intensified border security after arresting 45 foreign nationals attempting to cross illegally into Tak province on 6 December 2025, prompting a renewed declaration that Thailand will not serve as a refuge for transnational criminals. Police stated that the arrests came amid rising attempts by suspects to flee intensified crackdowns on call-centre gangs in a neighbouring country. The RTP said the operation forms part of wider efforts to curb illegal immigration, which they warn can drive further social and criminal problems.

Authorities said initial investigations showed the detainees admitted they were escaping political instability and heavy suppression of criminal groups across the border. Some were believed to be seeking to use Thailand as a temporary sanctuary or to establish new criminal operations inside the country. The police stressed that such trends pose significant national-security risks.

Deputy Spokesperson Pol. Maj. Gen. Jaturapat Bhiromkaew said the RTP “will not tolerate any threats that compromise national security” and vowed to prevent criminal groups from using Thailand as a hideout, escape route or transit point. He confirmed that police and security agencies have intensified 24-hour joint surveillance along the border. Officers are also using the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) to strictly screen all illegal entrants.

The NRM will be used to distinguish victims of human trafficking, who will receive protection, from offenders disguised as refugees. Those identified as criminals will face prosecution and immediate deportation once legal processes are complete. Officials said this approach is designed to ensure that genuine victims receive assistance while dismantling networks enabling cross-border crime.

Police added they are expanding investigations to identify masterminds and human-smuggling groups involved in bringing the 45 individuals across the border. Authorities are also increasing checks on land, sea and air routes, with a focus on document forgery and identity theft linked to illegal immigration. The RTP said it is working closely with domestic and international law-enforcement partners to stay ahead of evolving criminal tactics.

Thaitabloid reported that the public has been urged to report suspicious behaviour, including unusual rental activities or movements connected to illegal entry or call-centre gangs, via hotlines 1599 or 191. Police said public information remains a crucial tool in dismantling criminal networks and maintaining safety across the country.

But but but ... what about the hundreds of thousands of foreign criminals already in Thailand?
