New Year Celebrations In Bangkok

Featured Replies

Hi

I will be in Bangkok for the New Year, not Thai New Year or Chinese New Year but 28th December 2007 to 2nd January 2008. Can anybody suggest the best place to be for the Celebrations, fireworks, Party etc. I will be travelling alone and really want a good friendly atmosphere (I know Thai people are friendly and also backpackers)

Any Suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Dave

try khaosan rd - and book your accommodation in advance

Hi,

good decision. I recommend a roof-top restaurant near the river. There will be splendid fireworks.

Actually, the big celebrations in Bangkok are usually in front of Central World Plaza with thousands of people, live music, beer garden and the big countdown at midnight. Unfortunately the 2006/2007 event got cancelled due to the series of bombs that were set off in the city, so I don't know if they plan to hold it this year or not.

Thanks for tips so far. I like the idea of Restaurant overlooking the rivere. Any recommended hotels? Also has anybody ever been on the barge restaurant on the river during such an event?

Fireworks that killed 3 people. So why don't you go set one off and stand by it if you think they're mere fireworks.

Yep. I have. But I forgot the place. We just dropped in, without reservation, that's why I don't remember exactly. Will try to find out.
