I was never a Beatles fan, so I never took much notice of them. I wonder how many fans, from their millions, saw the difference. Was there no evidence of Paul's death; as in paperwork?

It was briefly reported, and quickly withdrawn:

It was made difficult for the public to realise, because they suddenly stopped touring, changed their hairstyles and grew moustaches. The band did leave clues though, such as in the Sgt. Pepper and Let it Be album covers, where "Paul" (a.k.a. Faul) has his back turned or is looking in another direction against a red background:

As with most 'conspiracy theories', it isn't actually hard to tell the truth. One just needs to look objectively. These two guys don't have the same face shape or eyes:

There is also a strange story of Elvis Presley's death. By all accounts he was alive, and singing, in 2023. And!! The reason he has never surfaced officially under his real identity, is because two of hos fans were killed right outside where he was staying on that 'fateful' evening. If he ever surfaced he could be in big bother. If he is still alive he would be 87 now.

DNA analysis would settle this once and for all, unless of course Johnny Cochran is really still alive and can debunk the DNA evidence.

Billy Shears had won a McCartney lookalike contest and there is no denying he looks like him. He didn't fit that seamlessly in the band, which is why they stopped touring to minimise exposure, and Lennon reportedly couldn't stand him (he was very close to the real Paul).

False McCartney is, according to George Martin's own son, an unpleasant character (c.f. the video I posted in the OP), which is understandable, spending your life impersonating someone else must be mentally taxing.

By seamlessly I meant someone who could sing and perform as well as or even better than the supposedly original Paul while fooling the public and media. After all, the Beatles were the most scrutinized band in history

The change in their musical style at that time helped smoothen the abrupt change. One thing to know is that Paul was left-handed, whereas Billy Shears is right-handed and struggles when playing with his left hand when impersonating Paul. Paul never looked at his hands when playing, whereas Billy does.

According to Grok, two major voice comparisons have been done between pre and post 1966 McCartney songs. Both found the voices were the same
