Bangkok's Mo Chit 2 bus terminal witnessed a surge of Thai and foreign travelers on January 2, 2026, as people returned from New Year holidays. The influx began early in the morning with continuous arrivals of air-conditioned coaches and joint-service buses dropping off passengers. The terminal was bustling with travelers carrying gifts and essential items, including rice and dried food from rural areas, to help cut living costs in the city.

The return crowds were not limited to locals. Numerous foreign tourists, having traveled for New Year celebrations at popular tourist spots, added to the congestion at the bus terminal. The high volume of returning passengers contributed to significant traffic slowdowns on Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road and surrounding areas.

Authorities responded by preparing staff to manage traffic and taxi queues, as well as coordinate Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) bus services. Motorists were advised to avoid the vicinity of the terminal, while those picking up relatives were encouraged to use public transport or plan for designated pick-up points to bypass delays.

Looking ahead, officials aim to maintain efficient traffic management and ensure smooth public transportation services during peak travel times. Travelers are advised to remain informed about traffic updates and schedule their commutes accordingly to avoid congestion issues, reported The Nation.

Key Takeaways

  • Mo Chit 2 terminal was crowded with return travelers from New Year holidays.

  • Traffic around the terminal slowed down, prompting authorities to manage flow.

  • Officials recommend using public transport to navigate congested areas.

Did they not have a clue this would happen - like it has "forever" But as tourist numbers down won't happen (their logical thinking 💭 - that's their brain - empty)

Nothing like forward planning haha 😅

Actually, as Mo Chit mostly serves the northeast, it hasn't been as bad as usual because they opened the new M6 highway, so that there are 2 roads to get to and back from the northeast. The main problem is going and returning from the south, as the roads are still crap... however, the roads from BBK to Korat and beyond are pretty good for the most part.
