The construction is expected to commence in late 2026, with a completion timeline of approximately five years. The project aims to ease traffic congestion and enhance regional connectivity in the Mekong Delta.The My Thuan Project Management Board announced that the Ministry of Construction is currently reviewing the prefeasibility study for this major infrastructure project. Significant steps, including investment approval, project sanction, and contractor selection, are planned by 2026. The bridge will integrate road and rail links and align with the future Ho Chi Minh City–Can Tho railway.The Can Tho 2 will span 17.5 km, starting at the Cha Va interchange in Vinh Long Province and ending at the IC2 interchange in Can Tho. This structure will connect directly to the HCMC–Ca Mau expressway. Its main span will be a cable-stayed bridge over 1 km long, located about 4.5 km downstream from the existing Can Tho Bridge, featuring six lanes and a design speed of 100 kph.The estimated investment of VND29.525 trillion ($1.12 billion) includes funding for construction, equipment, project management, consulting, and land clearance plus resettlement efforts. This strategic bridge aims to be a crucial link in the North–South expressway network, promoting regional trade and logistics, while reinforcing economic and social stability in the region.Experts highlight the bridge's potential to relieve the pressure on National Highway 1, thus facilitating smoother traffic and boosting commerce.
