To quash circulating rumours, a lawyer representing Pol Gen Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn, the former deputy national police chief, has confirmed that he remains in Thailand amid widespread online speculation suggesting otherwise.

On January 8, 2026, lawyer Sanyaphat Samart took to Facebook to assure that Surachate is residing lawfully in Thailand. The post criticised unfounded claims that Surachate had left for a neighbouring country, labelling them "completely false."

Surachate, according to the post, is committed to addressing the legal proceedings he faces, including matters involving investigators, the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), and the courts. Sanyaphat noted that a legal team is diligently preparing evidence to support Surachate's case through proper legal channels.

The lawyer called for media and the public to be prudent in sharing information online, pointing out the potential damage that false claims can inflict on reputations and ongoing legal affairs. He underscored the importance of sharing any significant updates officially to uphold transparency, reported The Nation.

Key Takeaways

  • Surachate Hakparn remains in Thailand, contrary to the departure rumours.

  • Legal preparation is underway for Surachate’s case with NACC and the courts.

  • Public urged to be careful with online information to prevent reputational harm.
