Poland’s President Says Trump Only Leader Who Can Stop Putin

Poland's President, Karol Nawrocki, stated in an interview with BBC Radio 4 that US President Donald Trump is the only leader capable of halting Vladimir Putin's aggression towards Europe. Nawrocki urged Europe to support Trump in his mission to end the Ukraine war. His comments come amid ongoing tensions with Russia, which he described as a significant threat to Central and Eastern Europe.

Nawrocki highlighted a recent Russian drone incursion as evidence of escalating tensions. In September, more than 20 drones crossed into Poland from Belarus and Ukraine, marking a first in such a scale for a NATO member. He referred to the situation as "extraordinary" and praised Britain's support, notably through RAF Typhoon jets that bolstered Poland's defences.

Nawrocki also discussed his friendship with Trump amidst controversies, notably Trump's claim over Greenland, which raised alarms in Europe. He insists the US remains Europe's security guarantor, despite recent conflicting statements from US officials. Nawrocki warned against Europe distancing itself from the US, stressing the move would threaten both economic and military security.

As for the Greenland issue, Nawrocki views it as a bilateral matter between Denmark’s leadership and Trump. Additionally, he criticised European leaders for prioritising less critical issues, like climate and migration, over security. He noted Poland's substantial defence spending—nearly 5% of GDP— as a contrast.

Nawrocki commended Britain for its strategic partnership, noting the presence of British soldiers in Poland. He valued the relationship, highlighting strong migration ties and expressing hope for Poland's participation in the upcoming UK-hosted G20 summit, reported the BBC.

Key Takeaways:

  • President Nawrocki sees Trump as essential to counter Russian threats.

  • Poland faced unprecedented Russian drone activity, testing NATO solidarity.

  • Nawrocki criticised Europe's focus on non-security issues amid rising threats.

This may be an inconvenient truth...

The issue is not really that he may be able to stop Putin. It's if he wants to stop him. 🙂

Yup, can't disagree with him at the moment. The rest of NATO is in no place to stop Putin, having been allowed by multiple previous US Presidents (including Trump 1.0) to underspend on defence. By the way, Poland is part of the reason for this too, hopefully that irony isn't lost on the Polish President.

I'd say US is overspending on defense, by far even. Europe has been spending as can be expected, in line with China, Russia and others.
IMO is this whole 'Europe can't defend itself' totally overdone and caused by the US pushing defense spending, mainly to prop up it's defense industry. Also don't forget that a big part of the US defense budget is going into a black hole. Plus the allocation of budgets is different, with e.g. in the US veterans costs allocated to the defense budget, whereas in many other countries this is not included in the defense budget.

That's quite a humorous claim considering the fact that Trump seems to be in Putin's debt, we don't exactly know how and why, could be Moscow orgies on tape with underaged gals, we don't really know. But decades of loyalty, devotion, fealty and obedience have shown Trump to be Putin's lapdog. So I wouldn't expect any pressure from Trump anytime soon.

Putin pulls trumps strings. Putin came through the ranks of their KGB and knows completely how to manipulate egotistical narcissist’s, especially someone as weak and unintelligent as trump.

If the NATO countries had cooperated well enough, Russia wouldn't stand a chance against them at the moment, even without the US. There are some big armies and forces which know their way around a war, in some of these countries, like Turkey, Poland itself, Finland, France, and of course Germany and UK. Together, Putin wouldn't stand a chance.

The problem though, is to get them to work together, do it wholeheartedly, and decide boots on the ground. If they did that, together with the Ukrainian forces, and all the firepower and modern weapons and planes NATO have, Russia would have been forced out of all of Ukraine pretty fast, and Putin would have been stopped.

If Poland is relying on Trump to stop Putin, good luck! Trump and Putin belongs to the same messianic racist movement as many others like Milei.

That's a political issue.

Agree. But for the greater good of Europe and the world, they should have brushed aside any issues and differences, and worked together, with the clear goal of stopping the Russian threat we have today. The resources are there.

Can still be done. Unfortunately the political will is not there.
