Be fair and accurate. The father was taken into custody. There was a legal requirement for the agents to secure the minor until he could be given to a guardian or child services. Had the agents abandoned the child, you would have been the first to accuse them of child neglect since it was a cold snowy day. The child was not arrested, nor "apprehended".

I am not hardcore MAGA. I do understand the US need to control its borders.

The US government most certainly has the legal authority, the right to detain unauthorized migrants. The person in question, Adrian Alexander Conejo Ramos, is a citizen of Ecuador, and entered the USA without authorization and claimed asylum. His detention was not punitive. The Immigration department made a custody determination to secure his presence for an immigration proceeding and probable removal from the United States. This is a legal basis to detain him.

As per 8 U.S. Code § 1226 - Apprehension and detention of aliens;

(a)Arrest, detention, and release: On a warrant issued by the Attorney General, an alien may be arrested and detained pending a decision on whether the alien is to be removed from the United States.

(b)Revocation of bond or parole: The Attorney General at any time may revoke a bond or parole authorized under subsection (a), rearrest the alien under the original warrant, and detain the alien.

The above is valid reason for the Ecuadorian national's detention.
