Epstein Files Rock Britain From Palace To Parliament

The United States government’s release of millions of documents linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has detonated a political and institutional crisis in Britain, ensnaring figures from the royal family to the heart of Westminster and raising fresh questions about how deeply Epstein penetrated the British establishment.

The latest tranche of files names three prominent figures repeatedly: former Prince Andrew, his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, and Peter Mandelson, the former UK ambassador to Washington and Labour grandee. While the documents do not in themselves prove criminal wrongdoing, they have intensified pressure on all three to explain their ties to Epstein — and on British institutions to confront how such access was ever possible.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has urged Andrew, now styled Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, to cooperate with a US congressional investigation. Mandelson has resigned from the Labour Party and is expected to quit the House of Lords this week as police assess allegations of misconduct in public office.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor

Andrew has long denied improper conduct and insisted he cut ties with Epstein in 2010. That claim has been repeatedly undermined by previously released emails suggesting continued contact, including a message in which Andrew told Epstein they were “in this together.”

The new documents add further scrutiny. Among them are three undated photographs showing Andrew kneeling over a woman lying on the floor, fully clothed, her face redacted. The images come without context and do not in themselves allege criminality, but their release has reignited public outrage.

Emails from August 2010 also show Epstein inviting Andrew to meet a “friend” — later described as a 26-year-old Russian woman — for dinner in London. Andrew replied that he would be “delighted to see her.”

Thames Valley Police confirmed they are assessing information related to reports of a woman being taken to an address in Windsor in 2010 “for sexual purposes,” though no formal complaint has been made.

Andrew has repeatedly denied allegations made by Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexual abuse when she was 17. Despite denying ever meeting her, Andrew paid millions to settle a civil lawsuit in 2022. Giuffre died by suicide in April.

Sarah Ferguson

Andrew’s former wife, Sarah Ferguson, is also referenced multiple times. Earlier documents showed her referring to Epstein as her “supreme friend,” a relationship she later said she regretted.

The latest emails reveal repeated expressions of gratitude and affection, including messages thanking Epstein for financial and personal support. Other communications suggest Epstein explored using Ferguson to publicly defend him against accusations of child sexual abuse.

Financial records indicate Epstein wired Ferguson $150,000 in 2001. Her charitable foundation announced this week that it will close “for the foreseeable future.”

Peter Mandelson

The most politically explosive revelations concern Mandelson, dubbed the “Prince of Darkness” for his influence within Labour. Newly released emails and financial records suggest Epstein may have received sensitive UK government information while Mandelson was a serving cabinet minister.

Documents indicate Mandelson discussed tax policy, banker bonus levies, and even tipped Epstein off about a looming €500 billion EU bailout. Financial records also suggest Epstein made payments linked to Mandelson and his partner, claims Mandelson disputes.

London’s Metropolitan Police have confirmed they are reviewing multiple reports related to alleged misconduct in public office. Former prime minister Gordon Brown has submitted information to investigators.

As Britain absorbs the fallout, the Epstein files have exposed a grim reality: a convicted predator appears to have enjoyed extraordinary access to power — and few, if any, barriers stood in his way.

Key Takeaways

  • Epstein maintained deep access to Britain’s royal and political elite long after his conviction.

  • New files raise serious questions about institutional failures and leaked state information.

  • Police investigations and political resignations signal the scandal is still unfolding.
