Police in Nonthaburi have arrested a Malaysian national accused of working with a call centre gang that defrauded a 63-year-old woman of 3 million baht by posing as police officers. The suspect was detained during a sting operation in Sai Noi district, with cash seized and part of the stolen money later recovered and returned to the victim.

The arrest followed an order on 6 February from Pol Lt Gen Watthana Yijim, Commander of Provincial Police Region 1, instructing officers to urgently pursue criminals impersonating state officials to deceive the public. Investigators from Sai Noi Police Station tracked the suspect to a car park in front of the Sai Noi District Office in Nonthaburi, opposite the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC). He was identified as Mr Tanerizan Nizam, a Malaysian citizen, and was found in possession of 1 million baht in cash.

The case began when Ms Sudjit, aged 63, filed a complaint with Sai Noi police after being contacted by individuals claiming to be “Phayao provincial police officers”. The callers accused her of being linked to a drug trafficking case and said her financial transactions needed to be examined. They threatened arrest if she did not comply, prompting her to withdraw and hand over cash on two occasions, totalling 3 million baht.

After the money was handed over on 4 and 5 February 2026, the gang contacted the victim again and demanded an additional 1 million baht for further checks. At that point, she sought police assistance, allowing officers to set up a controlled operation. Police then moved in and arrested the suspect at the agreed meeting location before the additional transfer could take place.

During questioning, Mr Tanerizan Nizam told investigators he had been hired by other individuals for 5,000 baht to collect cash from the victim on two occasions. Police said they were able to recover 1.3 million baht and return it to the victim. The remaining funds are still under investigation.

Daily News reported that the suspect has been charged with jointly defrauding the public and with offences under computer crime laws, involving the dishonest or deceptive input of false computer data likely to cause damage to the public. He has been handed over to investigators at Sai Noi Police Station for further legal proceedings. Police said enquiries are continuing to identify and arrest other members of the network involved in the call centre operation.

Well go to my bank with a warrant then, bye........coffee1

I responded in another " Malaysian " crime related topic, the majority of the crimes committed from the said country are Chinese or Indian descent. The country gets a black eye from non Malay descent who are Malaysian citizens.
