Pit Bull Mauls 70-Year-Old Woman in Samut Prakan

Featured Replies

A 70-year-old woman was seriously injured after being attacked by a neighbour’s pit bull in Samut Prakan on 11 March. The victim suffered severe wounds to her head and face after the dog suddenly lunged at her while she was helping deliver a parcel. Rescue workers provided first aid at the scene before rushing her to hospital.

The incident was reported at around 18:00 when the Samut Prakan emergency radio centre received a call about a dog attack in Soi Ruam Pattana 8, Moo 3, Tai Ban Mai subdistrict, Mueang district. Emergency responders from Samut Prakan Municipality arrived to find the victim, identified as 70-year-old Mrs Foo Lorattanamongkol, sitting on a chair covered in blood. She had deep lacerations under her right eye, near the corner of her left eye and multiple wounds on her head.

Blood was found leading from the front of the house where the attack occurred to the victim’s nearby home, along with a clump of hair on the ground. The dog involved, a four-year-old male Pit Bull Terrier named “Four”, was found secured inside the owner’s fenced property.

According to Mr Methee Lorattanamongkol, 71, the victim’s partner who witnessed the attack, the incident occurred while the woman was carrying a parcel to deliver to the neighbouring house. At that moment, a child inside the house opened the door slightly, allowing the dog to rush out unexpectedly. The animal immediately grabbed the woman and refused to release her until she fell backwards, leaving her with severe head and facial injuries.

Mr Methee said the victim was known in the neighbourhood as a kind person who often gave food to the dog when its owner was away. He added that the sudden aggression was unexpected, as she had regularly interacted with the animal without previous problems.

However, Mr Methee revealed that the dog had a history of aggressive behaviour. When it was younger, it reportedly bit a utility worker who had come to collect water and electricity payments. About two years ago, the same dog escaped and bit another elderly neighbour, injuring her arm.

Following that earlier incident, the dog’s owner reportedly kept the animal confined and rarely allowed it outside, aware of its aggressive nature. Despite these precautions, the dog managed to escape again when the door was opened, resulting in the latest attack.

Daily News reported that authorities have not yet announced any legal action or further measures regarding the dog or its owner. The injured woman remains under medical care at Samut Prakan Hospital as the case continues to be examined.

A few lead weights in it's left ear will do the trick. Pitbulls are evil animals and should be banned in Thailand. Doesn't the moron who owns the dog realise that the kid maybe next.

Just another perfect example of why this race, together with other undesirables, should be put down all over the world.

No doubt it will be located to a suitable shelter and all will be forgotten, just like previous cases.

always the same stories ! shoot the dog...next time it's a child and death !

Classic pit bull behavior. People just can't seem to get their stupid heads around the fact you can breed dogs to have innate behavior (like herding sheep) and this one was breed to kill.

Breed, but there are race issues also.

This is the THIRD person that this animal has attacked. What more does it take to put down a dangerous animal? Should be euthanized immediately.

when the wrong race gets the wrong breed all hell breaks loose.

Thai people refuse to euthanize at all costs. My Thai wife let out her old dog die a slow painful death from kidney disease instead of putting it down. Absolutely refused. They'd rather see dogs suffer great misery and people be attacked and killed then put a dog down. It's a sickness really.

These dangerous creatures should be banned worldwide. Surely people have leaned by now that they are prone to attack without warning and therefore aren't to be trusted. If someone has the desire to keep a dog, there are many friendly types to be had. The dog should be put down immediately and the owner prosecuted.

My Brit buddy one it’s a great dog it’s how you raise them. His is real friendly

Thai people aren’t big on dog training or socialization

My view entirely- how many more violent issues with the dog before the owner realises that it is not a friendly pet?

I'm a dog lover. Had several dogs in my long life.

As far as I'm concerned this dog should be put down and the owner put in jail.

Why is this the case. I don't think they mean to let the pet suffer? Is it a religious thing?

My wife feels the same way about abortion and euthanasia is illegal in America so there doesn't seem to be any principals here.

If a man wants to end his own life then that's his right.

If a dog would suffer less if you ended its life then you're showing it mercy.

For the Thai, if you care so much for your dogs then why do you let them suffer riddled with disease on the streets?

For the Americans, if you allow a woman to kill her unborn child then why can't a man decide how he ends his own life?

My apologies! Please read it as breed, just to please @PhilipHabib below.

Fixed! I have apologized to the world now.

I would encourage them to put that ridiculous creature down and to do it within the next 24 hours if possible, he no longer deserves the right to consume oxygen. And hopefully the owner of that pet will face some serious consequences.

I am a well-known dog-hater. Cats are slightly better because they <deleted> in one place and don't need to be walked.

I don't think any animal should be confined in a home or apartment. That's just human selfishness.

Not only do many Thai dog owners confine their dogs to the cement driveway behind their gates but often in a cage as well. Why would anybody keep a vicious dog? And how can any dog owner stand that stupid barking? Nobody's breaking into your house!

I should mention that Thais keep their old relatives indoors, never seeing the light of day for years! We have such neighbours on both sides.

I walk by a house with a vicious German Shepherd. He is muzzled full-time. I go to places where I carry a metal rod because of dogs, sometimes in packs.

Now to the euthanasia aspect. Despite the fact that monks eat meat (WTF!), the Buddha taught no killing. They don't apply that to meat but do to people and pets. Most veterinarians are not willing to kill your pet. In fact, I would be surprised if those drugs are even imported into Thailand, maybe even illegal.

I'm told that aspiring in a bunch of meat cures a problem dog. The real problems are the owners.

You really can't think things through, can you? Read the other comments about breeds and their characteristics, instead of boring us with anecdotes about lottery winners.

Uneducated comments from people too scared to even interact with a pitbull

Reminds me of racists who are terrified of black people
