Non-o 90 Day Marriage Approved - Need Bank To Extend 1 Year

Featured Replies

I recently got approved marriage non-o 90 day. From laos took less than 48 hours after payment which was suprising.

But is it straight forward with this type of visa to open a bank when in thailand? The thing i wonder if different branches have different requirements and say different things.. Which i have heard people say, but i really hope not i would need to jump between banks.. Any recent information about this?

I want to open kasikorn bank.

Having a non-immigrant visa, you will be able to open a bank account. You will most likely need supporting documents besides your passport with the visa, such as a secondary form of ID (e.g. an ID card or driving license from your home country) and a Certificate of Residence from your local immigration office in Thailand.

If you let us know where you're located / which immigration office you'll use, someone may be able to give you more specific advice. Some bank branches are more accommodating than others, but in general, Kasikorn Bank is an excellent choice and you should be able to open an account with them.

Good advice from @Caldera

Recently read a report on AN of fella same deal as OP... Non O eVisa 90 day stamp and was able to open account with Kasikorn having the Non O + had TDL and something from passport country (possibly a DL).

Notably he did not obtain a COR.

Depends on the branch.

Avoid BBL

Dont have an ID card from my home country unfortunetly or driver license, but i do have a thai driver license though, if that makes any difference but my old passport number is on it might need to renew it if so.

It will be Chonburi immigration and some kasikorn branch there i guess would be more convenient.

But i wonder what even is the logic why they would need it anything else from my home country though. Would be silly if i got denied based on that.. Is the ID requirement mostly about Kasikorn Bank?

If you have a Non O visa then go into a bank and ask what they require to open a bank account. That is the only sure way of finding out. People will offer advice , but going in person is the only sure way of finding out.

I had to provide my passport with my Non O visa , my Thai driving licence , my U.K driving licence , my Thai phone number , my wifes I.D card and her Tabien Baan.

This was last month in Kasikorn Bank Udon Thani.

You will need a 'certificate of residence' from Jomtien immigration...

to get that you also need to report your address to them TM30 , with the certificate of residence and your passport

you should then be able to open a Kasikorn bank account...no need for drivers licence IMHO.

If your wife has a bank account then the best way to open an account is to go with her to her branch and open your own sole account(s) there!

May have been helpful years ago.

Not now

That is what I did do. I also had to provide everything mentioned in my previous post.

Went to kasikorn to open a solo account two weeks ago, have had joint account with them for 15 years. Assistant manager told me all the required docs, went back this week and the manager served us. Gave him every document that I could think of, from original birth certificate to immigration COR, my Thai drivers license, 3 old passports and work permits and yellow book. I gave him statements from my Aus bank with my full name and Thai address, certified true copy of passport from Aus embassy. I also gave him my MFA certified translation of my passport and my retired military ID card.

He took photo's of everything and sent it to head office, 5 minutes and they came back to him and said that were not interested in anything except a current home country drivers license. I actually had my expired license in with all my other crap, he sent that off and they came back and said, as of 01 March I must supply a current and active home country license or no account. I told them I had lived and worked in Thailand for over twenty years and a home country license was not feasible, the manager just smiled and said to try another bank.

That is not my experience.

My last extension I went to kasikorn with street front that opens at 8.30am

I was the only customer.

Other times I have attended mall branch for statements, bank letter etc and have been seen quickly.

I live central Bangkok.

Maybe the sticks are different

It may be crazy, but it is not only Kasikorn. It appears that it is now being required by most major banks as a result of the Bank of Thailand instructing Thai banks to tighten their "Know Your Customer" rules. A secondary form of identification from your home country, e.g., driving license, is now being required to open an account.

Try to find a branch that isn't busy at the time you go, I wouldn't wait in line for two hours at any bank. When I opened a Krungthai account last month, my queue number was called right away and they asked all the important questions first. They were very interested in secondary ID from my home country, but not interested in any home country address. For proof of my Thai address, they accepted my Thai driving license, no need for a Certificate of Residence from immigration.

Thanks it's always helps to know because different provinces have different requirements indeed different branches in the same province can often have different requirements T.i.T
