I will only add I NEVER use minivans I value my life and sanity too much,

There is no direct bus or minivan service connecting Pattaya or Bang Saray to Sa Kaeo. Because these destinations are not on the same major transit corridor, your friend will need to travel via Bangkok to complete the journey.

Here is the most straightforward way for them to make the trip:

Step 1: Pattaya/Bang Saray to Bangkok

Your friend needs to get to one of the main bus terminals in Bangkok.

  • From Pattaya: There are frequent, reliable buses and minivans from the Pattaya North Bus Station to Bangkok's Ekkamai (Eastern Bus Terminal) or Mo Chit (Northern Bus Terminal).

  • From Bang Saray: They will likely need to take a local taxi or songthaew to the Pattaya main bus station first to catch a coach or minivan headed to Bangkok.

Step 2: Bangkok to Sa Kaeo

Once they arrive in Bangkok, they should head to the Ekkamai Bus Terminal (Eastern Bus Terminal).

  • Why Ekkamai? This terminal has the most frequent and direct services to Sa Kaeo province.

  • There are regular vans and minibuses departing for Sa Kaeo throughout the day. The journey from Bangkok to Sa Kaeo typically takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.

Summary of the Journey

Stage

Route

Suggested Transport

Stage 1

Pattaya/Bang Saray $\rightarrow$ Bangkok

Coach or Minivan (to Ekkamai or Mo Chit)

Stage 2

Bangkok (Ekkamai) $\rightarrow$ Sa Kaeo

Minibus / Van

Important Tips for Your Friend:

  • Booking: It is highly recommended to book the Bangkok-to-Sa Kaeo leg online in advance (via sites like 12Go Asia) to ensure a seat, especially if they are traveling on a weekend or public holiday.

  • Luggage: If they have a lot of luggage, a bus is much better than a minivan. Minivans have very limited space, and they may be asked to pay for an extra seat if their bags are large.

  • Taxis/Private Transfers: If they prefer a direct, stress-free option, they can hire a private taxi or transfer service directly from Pattaya to Sa Kaeo. While much more expensive than public transport (typically starting from 3,000–4,000 THB), it is the only way to avoid the multiple transfers and the long travel time associated with public transport.

Thanks i have been told that there is also a bus from pattaya to Aranyapratet that stops at kabin buri and Sakaeo on way to Aranyapratet but i cant confirm that,,,, going via bangkok they websites quote 14 -17 hours by the bus companies when direct to Sakaeo can be done in 3 -4 hours by car

My first thought would be to go to the bus station.

Ask some of the bar girls in pattaya as there are sometimes vans going to all sorts of places that a falang would not likely know about and not posted on any english sites...there is one i know that goes around and picks up gals at their bars then takes off for some villages.

Like it or not but minivan services from Pattaya are the fastest option.

Pattaya to Aranyaphratet / Poipet is (was) the number one border run route. Bet they have a stop at Sakeo.

But: with the current crisis at the Cambodian border (still closed) there might be restrictions.

Can't help any further.

Visa agencies in Pattaya should know best.

Lots of buses that serve Central/Eastern/NE Isaan from Pattaya pass through Sakaeo.

That includes the "Yellow Bus" that I used to use from Pattaya to Roi Et.

Your friend really needs to go to North Pattaya bus station and ask.

Indeed many go northeast on HW 331 / 304. Not exactly going through Sakaeo (city).

But in Kabinburi you could change east to Sakaeo (HW 33).

There is a shorter route going from 331 east: HW 359.

Khao Hinson interchange.

As I only know from driving in the car I have no clue about a bus on HW 359.

This picture is from an FB post of 2023.

Company doing mini van from Pattaya to Talat Rong Kluea (Kloeu).

That's the big market at the border in Aranyaprathet.

They claim to do a trip every 40 minutes from 4 AM to 5 PM.

It's bus line no 385.

Don't be confused by the hilarious transcript on the buses (Cholburi, Taladrongglior crazy)

pattaya_rongkloeu.jpg

The vans start near the gas station on Sukhumvit just north of the South Pattaya rd. T-junction. Two of the vans in the center of the street view image.
