EV without the annoying beeps

Featured Replies

I am looking at purchasing a small EV but wary of all the safety systems the Chinese include in their cars, in particular the ones like lane keep assist which you have to turn off every time you get back in the car. I want to be able to turn them off and they stay off

With that in mind can anyone recommend a EV that will just let me drive.

Budget ia about 400-600,000. Looking at MG4, BYD Dolphin and Atto 3.

We have petrol and diesel cars and want a third option for refueling

You need to turn off LKA every time you start the MG4

On the Dolphin that you can turn it off permanently and it won’t come on again.

The other car I think you should look at is the Aion UT we don’t have one, we do have The MG4 and the Dolphin but I think the Aion UT may be a superior car.

Our MG ZS turns things off, once is all that's needed. Would think same for the MG4, which fits your price point. MG with lifetime warranties, and not sure I'd bother looking at anything that doesn't have good lifetime warranty, on battery, controller & motor.

Definitely take a peek at the GAC Aion UT also, since in your price point & has LT warranty.

MG4 has to be turned off every time you start the car. I know because we have one.

Dolphin available with warranty KhunLA describes for 5,000 baht, might be free in current promotion. Aion UT it’s included.

There is also the Geely 2X from 429k to 459k IIRC. I don’t know about warranties, nice car but smaller. I don’t about annoying ADAS.

That would be a wee bit annoying, and I'd have to reset it, as the lane assist is really annoying.

You can do it with a steering wheel button press and then a button on the screen, if you remember, which you rarely do and first notice when it tries to guide you into what it thinks is the center of the lane.

Thanks. That's easy enough, so not nearly as annoying if using the screen alone, as on the ZS, it would be a few clicks & strolls.

The MG4 has a button on the steering wheel that takes you to a few shortcuts, it's a real PITA if you do it just through the screen.

The problem if you forget is the screen is small and it's difficult to get your finger on the right button, it's dangerous too.

Not all models, the MG4 (2024 build) standard range we used a while back kept LKA turned off permanently until restored in settings.

Rumours trend in favour of all Thai CKD builds from Chonburi having updated firmware that allows LKA to remain off between start cycles.

My choice of small car would be ...

  1. Zeekr X

  2. AION UT

  3. Dolphin

  4. MG4

  5. Geely 2X

In this order. Obviously, the Zeekr is like adding in a Mercedes in terms of quality & cost as it is one of China's luxury brands.

I think the Atto 1 and Atto 2 are coming to the Motor Show, might be worth a look.

Can’t comment on all the BYD range but it appears the Dolphin beeps and gongs stay off i know they do on my Seal also.

Good point on the Atto 1 & 2.
