Thailand’s Vaping Ban Fails to Stop Sharp Rise in Users

Thailand’s Vaping Ban Fails to Stop Sharp Rise in Users

A user network says Thailand should reconsider its long-running e-cigarette ban after official figures showed a dramatic rise in vaping. According to the data cited, the number of e-cigarette users climbed from 78,742 in 2021 to around 900,000 in 2024. The group argues that the ban has not curbed demand and has instead pushed the activity outside formal regulation. Supporters of reform say the figures demonstrate that prohibition alone is not delivering the intended results. The issue is now being raised again as the new government takes shape and pressure builds for a policy review.

I hope they decide to legalize it. Some of this black market vape oil is really unhealthy.

Do you think that will make a difference ?

Even the "legal" vapes are really unhealthy,it seems vapes are now a victim of their own success.

Nothing to do with health it's about keeping people on the tobacco by eliminating alternatives.

I think it has a lot to do with health, seems the way some kids vape is a lot more dangerous than smoking cigarettes .

Maybe the horse is hitched behind the wagon.

Vaping is far less dangerous than traditional cigarettes.

Its about the Thailand tobacco monopoly (their real name they dont even hide it) maintaining control.

There lies the problem, maybe in itself it is less harmful but the way a lot of young kids are using it

created a major health crisis.

A cigarette usually is being smoke in five minutes or so,these vapes just keep going and people keep

sucking in the chemicals.

A kid i know well uses it this way, very unhealthy and a lot of kids are getting health problems this way.

Personally I dislike being cocooned in the sickly chemical artificial scents of someone else's vapour - but then I am a cantankerous old sod!

I am not convinced that "vaping" is particularly healthy!

His parents should do something about that, not the government.

I don't think anyone has claimed vaping to be healthy, just a healthier alternative to cigarettes.
