Not anymore was test baby for two years 30 years ago, interferon injections and strange pills.

Felt like <deleted> for two years, hope I helped someone...

People who have had Hep C are ineligible to donate blood in Thailand (and most other countries as well).

  • The two most common hepatitis viruses affecting adults and children over the age of 11 are Hepatitis B and C. If you contract either of these after turning 11, you are not eligible to donate blood.

I'm 76. Thai Red Cross starts fussing when one is 60 and cuts off your blood donations entirely at 70.

  • First-time donors: Must be under 60 years old.

  • 60–65 years old: Must be regular donors and can donate every 3 months.

  • 65–70 years old: Must be regular donors and can donate every 6 months.

I have O-negative universal donor blood so I tried some workarounds. First was phlebotomy which was tested and sent to the Red Cross. Medical procedure, costs money.

When I was in Thonburi's naval hospital, I decided to ask. The Red Cross Blood Bank there had no problems with age. They do try to restrict us to every six months and I prefer four.

This time, there was an 82-year old Navy Captain giving his O-negative blood. How cool is that!

A normal annual physical assesses the health of your blood in a Complete Blood Count. This can indicate several different kinds of anaemia, health and quantity of red & white cells aso.

However, blood donations only require a haemoglobin level of 12.5 g/dL or over and haematocrit of 37-49% for females and 39-55% for males.

I started to give after seeing so many killed and wounded in Black May 1992.

It's free to give. You'll feel good about yourself.
