Witnessing / acceptping Australian divorce papers from overseas

Featured Replies

Just got an email from ex wifes lawyers (separated over 12 years) asking for an address to serve notification of divorce papers she had asked to have lodged, I think she has plans to remarry. May be overthinking it but has anyone been through a similar situation while living here and agreed to be served with divorce papers from Australia? I have no wish to obstruct her or oppose the divorce but was a very acrimonious split and have no wish to raise that genie from the bottle again.,... so loathe to give out my address details, I googled the law firm and seem legit. We separated nearly 12 years ago and at the time we got a separation certificate, separation settlement agreement etc so there is plenty of witnessed paperwork to show length of separation so don't understand why I need to participate in this. Having said that, and very little information on this particular thing online, but perhaps they need proof you have been notified / served so you can't say you weren't told. I looked into it a while ago and I did have a feeling I read as long as you are apart 1 or 2 years either party can file for divorce unopposed? I guess I could have mail sent care of a post office here? Can you do that in Thailand? Obviously would be sent registered mail and I would have to sign for it therefore they would have their requirements filled.

Prefer 1st hand Aussie information from someone had a similar experience if possible rather than motherly advice 😁
