AI Overview

Left-hand drive (LHD) cars in Thailand are rare, but can be purchased through

specialized importers and LHD 4x4 exporters, mainly located in Bangkok. Primary sources include Jim Autos Thailand, Soni Motors, and specialized importers like PAP Autotrading, which offer new/used Toyota Hilux, Fortuner, and various European/American models.

Where to Buy LHD Cars in Thailand:

  • Jim Autos Thailand / Soni Motors (Bangkok): Known as a major LHD 4x4 dealer and exporter, offering LHD Toyota Hilux, Fortuner, Vigo, and Isuzu D-Max.

  • PAP Autotrading Co., Ltd.: Specializes in bringing in brand-new LHD vehicles such as Toyota Land Cruisers, Jeep Wranglers, and Hilux Revo, often found through their online showroom.

  • Trust Motors Thailand: Deals in left-hand facelifted Toyota Hilux Revo.

  • Specialized Import Brokers: Many classic or luxury LHD cars are imported by private importers in Bangkok, often found in specialized car enthusiast groups on Facebook.

Key Details for LHD Vehicles in Thailand:

  • Availability: Mostly limited to pickups, SUVs (Toyota Prado, Landcruiser), and specialty/imported cars.

  • Best Options: 4x4 diesel trucks and SUVs are the most commonly available LHD vehicles because Thailand is a global hub for manufacturing them.

  • Condition: Both brand new (0-meter) and used LHD vehicles are available through these specialized channels.

  • Note: LHD cars are not common in standard mainstream dealerships because Thailand drives on the left and requires right-hand drive (RHD) vehicles.

Disclaimer: Ensure all imported or LHD vehicles are properly registered and cleared for road use by the Thailand Department of Land Transport.

err..

Obviously a Thai dealer as above is best.

Bear in mind that almost all LHDs are imported, and import duties even on second-hand ones are astronomical – I don't think there is a law in Thailand forbidding them long-term, but it's worth checking.

You might also look into buying or importing from Laos. Although cars tend to be more expensive there.

Nice thing about LHD cars is that technically you should be allowed into Vietnam – they only allow RHD in convoys.

The guys rotating out of the US Embassy sometimes sell their cars before they rotate back

I'm pretty sure Toyota, Ford, Mitsubishi & Isuzu all manufacture in Thailand for export to US so that would be worth looking into.
