Israel has dramatically escalated its rhetoric over southern Lebanon, declaring that homes in villages near the border will be destroyed as part of a plan to reshape the region after the war with Hezbollah.

The announcement by Defence Minister Israel Katz signals a hardening Israeli strategy: push militants north, clear built-up areas, and establish a deeper security belt along the frontier.

For hundreds of thousands of Lebanese civilians already displaced, the message was stark — returning home may not be possible anytime soon.

A sweeping threat aimed at the border zone

Katz said homes in Lebanese villages near the Israeli frontier would be demolished as part of efforts to secure northern Israel.

He indicated the goal is to create a military buffer reaching the Litani River — roughly 30 kilometres inside Lebanon. Israeli forces, he said, would control key crossings and eliminate Hezbollah’s elite Radwan units in the area.

The scale of the proposal suggests a long-term reshaping of the border rather than a temporary wartime measure.

Gaza destruction cited as the template

Katz sharpened the message by explicitly referencing tactics used in Gaza.

He said demolitions would follow the “model” applied in cities such as Rafah and Beit Hanoun — locations synonymous with extensive wartime devastation.

The comparison raised fears in Lebanon that Israel may be preparing to systematically clear entire villages to establish a permanent security strip.

Israel says Hezbollah attacks forced the shift

Israeli officials argue the plan is a response to the scale of cross-border attacks.

Military spokesperson Nadav Shoshani said Hezbollah has launched nearly 5,000 missiles and aerial strikes against Israel during the conflict. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered expanded operations in southern Lebanon, insisting the threat to northern Israeli communities must be eliminated.

For Israeli leaders, the message is simple: the old border arrangements no longer work.

A humanitarian crisis deepens

The consequences for Lebanon could be enormous.

More than 1.2 million people have already been displaced in the fighting, and over 1,200 have been killed since the latest escalation began. Lebanese officials warn the country is bracing for a prolonged displacement crisis if large swathes of the south remain off-limits.

With aid funding already stretched thin, the prospect of entire border villages being erased risks turning a regional conflict into a long-term humanitarian emergency.

Israel is making Southern Lebanon into a Gaza-like wasteland.

And like the Trump administration, Israel is engaging in an INVASION of Southern Lebanon. During my entire life in was hammered into my generation that invasions, like Hitler's invasion of Poland and Eastern Europe, was the essences of "evil." Invasions are wrong. Invasions are immoral.

Then somehow we're now being told that invasions are good and moral and just.

No they are not: Invasions are Evil, and Wrong, and Amoral. Those countries engaged in invasions should be stopped and their leaders brought to justice and punished.

The only nations with the power to do anything are Russia and China. 20% of the Israeli "settlers" are Russian/Israeli dual citizens so Russia will not get involved. China, contrary to the US propaganda, IS NOT an aggressor nations. It manufactures and trades. It has no interest in engaging in wars, or stopping acts of aggression either.

So - the Greater Israel Project continues unabated as Israel ethnically cleanses the region of Palestinians and Arabs and creates ethnically pure regions for Israeli "settlement." Imho, they'll continue this push through Syria until they reach Türkiye at which point they reach the metaphorical "Bridge Too Far." Actually, they may not make it to the Latani River as Hezbollah is handing them a repeat of Israel's 2006 invasion of Southern Lebanon. Israel denies it all, but as usual - time will reveal all. But in the meanwhile, Israeli media happily shows the world that it is making a desert in South Lebanon and calling it 'Peace.'
