Thai Income tax refund check expired, where to get re-issued?

Featured Replies

I got a refund check from the Thai income tax this week.

When I took it to the bank I was told it was older than 6 months and was expired.

Has anyone had a refund check re-issued for this reason?

My understanding is that this should not be a problem (I know, dream on) if I take it to the issuer.

But is the right place the Bangkok Area Revenue Office?

This is at the Bangkok Pahurat Building in Suan Siam.

That is the physical address on the letter that accompanied the check.

I have never before received mail at the lobby mailbox in my condo building and I seldom check it for that reason. I have no idea how long this check was sitting in my mailbox.

Guess I will change that bad habit.

Being from the good ol' USA I am used to getting junk mail with phony checks trying to get me to do something and I almost trashed this check. Lucky me that I didn't.

Hope someone has had this problem and knows the answer.

No but I would suggest you go to where you claimed it and ask there - if online wherever your local TRD is.

A check does not expire.

Some bank staff don't know this and invent "expire dates", 6 months is a popular fantasy.

Many banks will feel very reluctant if a check is older than a year.

Talk with a knowledgeable person in your bank (I know, there aren't many)

Sections 990 and 991 of the Civil and Commercial Code for checks would disagree with you.

Sorry, what is TRD?

Funny the one person at the branch who is always a beeyotch "helped" me.

She never smiles.

But she smiled when she told me the check had expired.

She was really happy to tell me that.

But she didn't tell me anything about what I could do, as you say maybe she didn't know.

THanks.

Sorry, my mistake.

(I was talking about cashier checks)
