Where can I dispose of my old laptop in Bangkok? Other than throwing it in the bin.

It stopped working. Had it for 14 yrs. Time for replacement.

Just leave it by the bin (not in it) it will be gone in no time someone will scavenge it

or perhaps even fix and reuse it.

If there is any sensitive data then remove the hard drive and format it multiple times or destroy it if really paranoid.

In which case leave the charger with it as well!

Well yes if you are on the train and realise you have dropped one glove on the station

as the train departs do you throw the other glove out the window to make a matching pair or keep hold of the glove in hopes that if you ever get back to the station the glove is still there ?

🤔

Problem is it won't even restart. It has an SSD.

If you had sensitive data on the computer then remove the SSD before disposing...you could reuse the SSD.

How difficult is the drive to remove?

You could take it out, wipe it using the new computer and then s-can it.

How big an SSD did you have in a laptop 14 years ago?

@Letseng definitely take the HD out, and simply buy an external case for it, as if the HD wasn't the issue, then you'll still have what ever is on it, if wanting.

Have you taken it to a shop, to see what the issue was ? Might be an easy and inexpensive fix. 14 yrs old, yea, time for an upgrade.

If it's fourteen years old, the storage drive should be relatively easy to remove. So remove it and then place the laptop in a protective covering somewhere outside, for someone to take it away.

Laptops of that age generally have a hatch for when it comes to storage and RAM. Newer models made it increasingly difficult to access the RAM and storage drives. Even to the point of having to almost completely disassemble the device .
