North Sea drilling would cut UK gas imports by just 2%, data reveals

Opening major new drilling sites in the North Sea would barely dent the UK’s reliance on imported gas, according to new analysis that intensifies pressure on ministers weighing controversial projects.

Research compiled by campaign group Uplift suggests the highly contested developments would deliver only marginal supply gains while leaving Britain heavily dependent on foreign energy.

Jackdaw’s Promise Shrinks Under Scrutiny

One of the biggest untapped gasfields, the Jackdaw field, would replace just 2% of the UK’s current gas imports over its lifetime, the figures show.

Even under the most optimistic assumptions — including that none of the gas is exported — the field would make only a limited contribution to national demand over nine to twelve years.

Campaigners say the numbers undercut arguments that new drilling would meaningfully strengthen Britain’s energy independence.

Rosebank Adds Even Less

The separate Rosebank field project would have an even smaller impact.

Despite its vast reserves, most of the resource is oil intended for export markets. On average, the field would reduce the UK’s gas import dependency by roughly 1%.

Critics argue the project is therefore driven by commercial returns rather than national energy security.

Miliband Faces Mounting Political Pressure

The decision now sits with Ed Miliband, who faces intense lobbying from industry groups, unions and opposition parties urging approval.

Figures linked to Nigel Farage and the Conservatives argue domestic drilling would boost jobs and reduce reliance on foreign supplies.

But environmental groups warn that approving new fields risks undermining Britain’s climate commitments while delivering little real energy benefit.

Energy Crisis Profits Stir Public Anger

The debate comes as soaring global tensions push energy company valuations sharply higher.

Shares in BP, Shell, Exxon Mobil and Chevron have surged since the latest Middle East crisis, adding tens of billions to their market value.

Campaigners say the gains highlight a system that rewards fossil fuel producers while households continue to struggle with energy bills — a legacy of the price shocks that followed Russian invasion of Ukraine.

New North Sea drilling would barely reduce UK gas imports at all, data shows

So no sovereign wealth fund for the UK

from North Sea oil?

Where did it all go wrong ?

Who are they fooling really. To start with Netherlands owning most of that gas and oil, as well we have tons in Suriname (yes that is right, next to venezuela). There isn't even a scarcity factor on oil or gas.

If my hometown province became it's own country we would be more rich than Saudi's. Yet we always need to listen to the idiot USA starting wars repeatedly since WW2. Even WW2 they made the Russians do the real work, there is actually zero difference today.

The entire Ukraine war was the same show, for example Italy has still long-term cheap contract for supply from Russia, Brussels blocked this for almost all other EU countries, which forced yearly contracts + very high prices, specially after the sanctions. It turns out foreign lobbyists had a very heavy factor in this, yes you read that right, the same issue USA has with jews running them.

Then the west blows up the nordstream pipeline, to then blame russia on it again. To then force EU to buy liquid gas from USA. This now happens again with jet fuel on top. The answers and facts are quite easy and obvious if you just follow the money trail.

All this is is a game of risk between a few idiot players who dominate the world using fake scarcity as their tool. Literally everything is based on this very lie, from the petro dollar to anything else.

Next you will see a global financial crisis with this entire false flag as a cover up story and excuse for it. I just try to conclude who is the most retarded of all; Trump or the majority of people still being too stupid to understand and get this all. It's the people.

It's funny how humans work with this too, always playing moral games and whatever, to then just full on ignore genocides on children or entire countries being destroyed, to be more worried about the next shopping spree and summer holidays. Hypocrites.

Oh yeah and before we forget? WTF epstein? WTF maxwell?

Forgive me for being 'stupid'.

If the Rosebank oil field has vast reserves, but opening it up to the uk market would have minimal effect, because the oil is intended for export, then surely stop exporting it!!

Norway had the right idea about north sea oil/gas. Britian has been governed by morons (of all political colours) for decades....

Netherlands ??

Suriname is an independent state, having gained independence from the Netherlands on November 25, 1975

Next to Venezuela ? If you don't count Guyana.

Plus it would have no impact on prices it would just maximise oil company profits......so the only real benefits besides employment would come from windfall taxes.

Throw all immigrants out and you'll save a lot more than 2 %.

No need to start drilling again.

Or quit the obsession that Russia is the enemy ,

and buy abundant energy from them.

Of course, it’s the immigrants.
