Bycicle day trips eastern Kanchanaburi Province mainly in Sai Yok district around Kwae Noi River (Kwai River) (about 170 road kilometers west of central Bkk), excluding major tourist sights, including hot springs:

I never checked, but i bet they have. Easy to find out on Google Maps or Booking.com. Note there are raft rooms with outside bathtub for your utmost relaxation - and for extra viewing pleasure from boats and bridges.

By the way, i did ask AI where the waste water goes. I wonder if then it circles back into your scenic bathtub.

Cheers, thanks for that...not sure why, but I just assumed you had stayed there.

No, i had a cottage right on the river bank, but not floating (seen in pics #2 and #3). It had a lovely little private west-facing terrace which got unbearably hot in afternoons (the room also).

very nice picks - is this an e-bike with belt drive? purchased in TH? woul you share some details? Thanks

Hi J. Thanks. No, this is not an e-bike. It is a belt drive made by the company Pinion on a bicycle without a motor (except me). I brought the bicycle for this holiday from my country and brought it back.

I tried everything already:

  • rent bicycle in Thailand

  • buy bicycle in Thailand and sell before return home

  • bring bicycle to Thailand and back

Bringing a bicycle from the west works best for me (in TH, i always have a rental car to transport the bicycle, i only do day trips on bicycle). A bicycle as "special sports luggage" used to cost around 5080 THB Europe-Thailand oneway on Thai Airways. Right now i believe the price went down (yes, down) to around 80 USD ow Europe-Thailand.

I only travel in far-off places like Sakeo or Khanu Woralaksaburi (Kanchanaburi is an exception). Renting a bicycle there will give you only trashy things that you have to take to the workshop first. I also bought new bicycles for around 8000 THB, but they aren't great and AT LEAST you should bring better tyres, inner tubes and a saddle (or saddle pillow). Selling it, i got only 2500 or 0 THB and Thai people don't care if you have much better tyres or not.

So it's ok for me to bring the western bicycle with Pinion gear with the belt drive. You have to change oil every year, otherwise it seems to be maintenance-free (but when broken, perhaps hard to fix esp. in TH). It's expensive, and the frame must be made for it (i think), but for me personally it's the best.

When i had the usual derailleur gears either on rented bicycles or on a bicycle bought for 3 months, i needed service all the time (i'm useless as a mechanic). The bicycle you see on my pics didn't need ANY service for 10.000 kms of bumpy field roads (with well-chosen tires). Only after 10.000 kms 2 spokes broke, but that was perhaps due to my unattentiveness (bike bag got into wheel).

There may be alternatives to the Pinion gear, including cheap ones from China, but i don't know.

Btw, several times when i stopped for a snack at remote street stalls somewhere around Wichian Buri or Lan Sak, Thai guys noted the belt drive, admired it (why?) and inquired about the bicycle's price. That was rather awkward and i told them a much lower price than i had paid.
