The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced plans to file criminal charges against individuals spreading misinformation about an alleged "energy lockdown." This comes amid a fuel crisis, as authorities aim to curb panic sparked by these false claims. PNP Chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. emphasized tracking and charging those responsible for spreading this disinformation to maintain public order.

The rumor emerged through posts suggesting that the government would enforce an "energy lockdown" due to rising fuel prices and tensions in the Middle East. In response, Nartatez stated that police units across the nation are using official social media channels to rapidly dispel false information and provide accurate updates. The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group is also enhancing its online monitoring to identify those spreading false claims.

These actions follow warnings from the Presidential Communications Office, which highlighted the risk of misinformation causing unnecessary panic and eroding public trust. In collaboration with the Department of Justice, the government aims to hold accountable those who spread deceptive information or attempt market manipulation. As fuel prices remain volatile due to global market conditions, authorities urge the public to verify information before sharing.
