Measles-rubella cases in the Philippines have risen by 45%, according to the Department of Health (DOH) as of April 7. Between January 4 and March 21, 2026, 1,627 cases were reported, compared to 1,121 in the same period last year. The increase is largely attributed to unvaccinated individuals, who account for 68% of cases.

The DOH identified the regions with the most significant increases: the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, Region XII, Region XI, the National Capital Region, and Region III. National vaccination coverage for measles-rubella is at 66%, leaving around 821,000 eligible individuals unvaccinated. A recent measles death in Quezon City highlighted the vulnerability of infants under the vaccination age.

Efforts to counter the outbreak include outbreak response immunization and active case finding. The DOH emphasized the safety and efficacy of the measles-rubella vaccine, describing it as essential in preventing deadly complications. Nationwide routine immunization continues, with preparations for supplemental activities in Luzon and the Visayas underway.
