Vietnam aims to attract 45-50 million international tourists annually by 2030 under a new plan from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This ambitious target represents an annual growth of 16-19% and reflects the country's focus on bolstering its tourism sector. The plan also targets 160 million domestic visitors each year.

Tourism has significantly contributed to Vietnam's economy, with a record 21.2 million visitors last year, as reported by the General Statistics Office. In Southeast Asia, Vietnam ranked as the third most visited country, following Malaysia and Thailand. The sector currently aims to welcome 25 million foreign visitors this year, marking a potential 16% increase.

Experts believe achieving these ambitious targets could increase tourism's contribution to Vietnam's GDP to 14% by 2030, supporting 12 million jobs, including four million directly within the industry. This growth could bolster related sectors like hospitality and transport. The emphasis on tourism aligns with the national strategy to drive economic progress and international engagement.

Looking ahead, Vietnam's tourism sector plans to implement initiatives to enhance visitor experiences and infrastructure. Efforts to improve tourist facilities and connectivity are expected to play a critical role in reaching the projected numbers. As the country continues to promote its rich cultural and natural attractions, these strategies may attract a broader international audience.

What, not targeting "quality tourists" as their Thai brothers? 🤣

Be very careful of what you wish for. It can easily ruin your country and your reputation. Thailand can teach you a few lessons on this. The Land of Smiles no longer exists. A slow painful ride to the bottom is in the forecast. Sad, because it once was the best and cheapest place to visit or retire.

Why would 50 million tourists a year be a good thing?

There goes the environment...
