Israel accused of ‘targeted killing’ as reporter dies in drone strike

Al Jazeera has condemned the killing of one of its Palestinian correspondents in Gaza, calling it a “deliberate and targeted crime” after an Israeli drone strike hit a vehicle in Gaza City, killing two people.

Mohammed Wishah, a reporter for Al Jazeera Mubasher, died on Wednesday as tensions simmer despite a fragile six-month ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

Strike Sparks Immediate Dispute Over Identity

Witnesses said the vehicle was struck along a coastal road west of Gaza City, with footage showing it engulfed in flames moments later. Local health officials confirmed two fatalities at the scene.

The Israeli military said it deliberately targeted Wishah, alleging he was a Hamas operative posing as a journalist. It claimed he was involved in weapons production and planning attacks against Israeli forces.

Network Rejects Claims, Vows Legal Action

Al Jazeera rejected the accusation and said the strike marked a “flagrant violation of international law”. The broadcaster insisted Wishah had no ties to Hamas and accused Israel of pursuing a pattern of targeting journalists.

The network said it would seek legal accountability, pledging to pursue those responsible through international courts.

Mounting Toll on Media Workers

The Committee to Protect Journalists condemned the killing “in the strongest possible terms”, warning of a deepening crisis for media safety in the region.

Wishah is the 11th Al Jazeera journalist killed since the war began. According to Reporters Without Borders, more than 220 journalists have been killed in Gaza over the past two and a half years, dozens while on duty.

International outlets remain heavily reliant on local reporters, as foreign journalists are barred from entering Gaza.

Conflict Expands Beyond Gaza

The violence has spilled across borders. This week alone, two more journalists were killed in Lebanon amid Israeli strikes linked to fighting with Hezbollah.

The CPJ says at least 260 journalists have died across the Middle East since the conflict began, warning that the scale of killings reflects a “systematic failure” to protect civilians.

With no accountability in sight, pressure is mounting on international bodies to act before further escalation claims more lives.

Another day another Israeli war crime.

At least they were facile enough to call it an accident!

Its only a war crime if we say it is. Whatever the enemy or their supporters say does not matter

Yet gain.

Hardly an accident then.

The Nazi regime systematically destroyed the Yiddish press in Europe, targeting journalists, editors, and publishers.

Based on documented evidence and historical accounts of the Holocaust, Nazi Germany murdered at least 1,425 Jewish journalists. Seems like Israel is going for gold this time.
