Phuket Crash: Foreign Driver Injures Three Teenagers on Bike

Featured Replies

A foreign driver caused an accident in Phuket's Sakhu subdistrict, injuring three 14-year-old Thai girls. The incident occurred on April 8 at 3.15pm when the driver, identified as 29-year-old Michael, crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a motorcycle on which the three girls were riding. One of the girls sustained serious injuries, prompting public appeals for blood donations at Vachira Phuket Hospital.

The crash was captured on CCTV and showed Michael’s Toyota Yaris Ativ crossing the lane and striking the motorcycle. After the initial collision, the car continued and crashed into a nearby restaurant, causing additional damage. Sakhu Police Chief, Pol. Col. Salan Santisatsanakul, confirmed the details and stated that police are continuing their investigation.

Police investigations concluded that the crash resulted from driver negligence. Legal proceedings are underway following the examination of the scene and collection of evidence. The driver’s vehicle has been moved to Sakhu Police Station as part of the ongoing investigation.

The three injured girls are receiving medical attention for their injuries. The community and authorities are closely monitoring their recovery while legal actions progress against the driver.

Horrible footage, that was a heavy impact, poor girls.

I hope they recover ok.

Yes horrible crash and car driver seems to be at fault 100 %

but what are 3 14 year olds doing on a motorbike in the first place ?

Awful - I wonder how such inattention happens..

... A sudden onset of a medical condition is the only thing I can think of that could possibly excuse this.

... Possibly mechanical failure - but its a modern car - zero chance of that really.

... On the phone ? - they should be checking his records.

... Pished up ? - I really do hope the breathalysed the driver.

I hope the girls make a full recover - In this case, it doesn't really matter if they were riding underage or not, they could have been on the back of the bike of with their father riding and the outcome would be the same.

Doubtful they were wearing helmets - which will have very likely made their injuries much worse - the news applies focus on the foreigner 'driving' aspect - but in reality, this is an example of terrible driving we see all over the kingdom regardless of nationality.

Totally irrelevant distraction from the driver at fault.

But also a totally relevant observation of the circumstances.

3:15--Coming home from school.

If the driver is an expat, he should have his licence revoked and his car impounded. If he's a tourist in a rented car, he'll serve as a good example of why NOT to drive yourself in Thailand no matter how good a driver you are in your home country.

Does not matter.

So, no investigation, just your edict of punishment. Ever hear of a concept called due process? Until mechanical failure, or medical crisis is ruled out, the driver should not be "punished". If the driver is negligent, then a court trial is merited and the judge will condemn accordingly.
