... A sudden onset of a medical condition is the only thing I can think of that could possibly excuse this.

... Possibly mechanical failure - but its a modern car - zero chance of that really.

... On the phone ? - they should be checking his records.

... Pished up ? - I really do hope the breathalysed the driver.

I hope the girls make a full recover - In this case, it doesn't really matter if they were riding underage or not, they could have been on the back of the bike of with their father riding and the outcome would be the same.

Doubtful they were wearing helmets - which will have very likely made their injuries much worse - the news applies focus on the foreigner 'driving' aspect - but in reality, this is an example of terrible driving we see all over the kingdom regardless of nationality.

3:15--Coming home from school.

If the driver is an expat, he should have his licence revoked and his car impounded. If he's a tourist in a rented car, he'll serve as a good example of why NOT to drive yourself in Thailand no matter how good a driver you are in your home country.

So, no investigation, just your edict of punishment. Ever hear of a concept called due process? Until mechanical failure, or medical crisis is ruled out, the driver should not be "punished". If the driver is negligent, then a court trial is merited and the judge will condemn accordingly.
