Police in Cambodia have arrested two men in separate cases that have shocked local communities, including the killing of a five‑year‑old boy in Siem Reap and the fatal shooting of a young woman in Phnom Penh.

In Siem Reap’s Prasat Bakong District, officers detained Chen Sok, 28, after the disappearance of a child in Trang Village. Investigators say the suspect, a truck driver and former relative of the boy’s family, lured the child to rice fields on 15 April before stabbing him. The body was later found hidden near a gravel road. Chen Sok was sent to court the following day.

Meanwhile in Phnom Penh’s Por Senchey district, police arrested Thuok Chea, 39, accused of killing his ex‑wife, 22‑year‑old Chun Teu, at her hair salon on 12 April. Authorities allege he pursued her with a handgun before fatally assaulting her. The couple had separated a month earlier after domestic disputes.

Chea was captured on 15 April in a forested area of Kampong Cham province following a joint operation by municipal and provincial police. He has since been transferred to court for legal proceedings.

Both cases highlight the continuing challenge of violent crime in Cambodia, with police under pressure to respond swiftly to incidents that have left families and communities reeling.
