Applying for SETV for Thailand when in a neighbouring country

Featured Replies

First can I please ask we stay on topic and not say for example say get a METV in the first place,,,there are reasons one being the 6 months is running from day of issue

Also ignoring the fact that some will say get a retirement visa !

Also ignoring the fact I might get refused entry on a 2nd SETV

If I apply for SETV via the Royal Thai Embassy using UK website I've used before and extend it by 30 days in Jomtien what issues might I face applying for another SETV when for example I visit Vietnam for a week or whatever at 90 day mark

Google tells me I can but doesnt really highlight any difficulties (if indeed there are any)

As an example would you go on the Thai Embassy website in Hanoi and apply on there or what ??

Thanks

(I really must get rid of that avatar lol)

You use the Thai evisa website which is not country specific.

You can apply for a SETV using the eVisa system. If you're in a neighboring country, the Thai embassy (or consulate general for the area where you are located) will process your application.

Whether or not they will give you another SETV after you've just had one from the UK is anyone's guess and might depend on your previous visa history. There's no hard limit, but also no guarantee that you can get consecutive ones.

Almost certain that you could obtain a second setv eVisa given that you are applying for the two in different countries.

Prior to eVisa it was not unheard of for second application to be rejected if applying again at same consulate/embassy as the first one.

So I go onto the relevant Embassy/Consulate website in Hanoi ??

At that point in time I wouldnt have had an SETV for around 28 months. Overall history would not raise any alarm bells am certain of that

Ideally (but not expected) is that the current visa exempt entry remains at 60 days as that would remove the 1st SETV completely

Do you mean if the current 60-day visa-exempt entry is still available, your question regarding SETV is a moot point? If that's the case, but not knowing your comprehensive immigration history, maybe consider a safe entry procedure?

It is country-specific as each application requires proof of your current location at the time of applying for the SETV. For the OP who is considering Hanoi, he can only file his SETV application AFTER arrival in Vietnam and the entry stamp in his passport is inarguable proof of presence in the country.

Yes indeed but his question asked if he should apply using the "UK website" and then the "Hanoi Embassy Website. There are no such visa application websites. That was the point I was helping him with. There is only one worldwide website. He was unaware of this important point regarding websites and that was what he was asking about.

It is important to address the question.

I got a SETV from Vietnam last year. As there was an Embassy in Hanoi and a Consulate in HCM I had to choose where to apply on the website. Obvious if you are in either of these cities but I was in Hoi An which is closer to Hanoi (I think) but according to the Consulate website was covered by HCM. Application was smooth but Vietnam passport stamp was not accepted as proof of residence, hotel booking was fine. Good luck.

No. All visas are now obtained on the eVisa platform (worldwide)

Meaning it's an online application.

Note: applications in Laos require payment to be made at embassy/consulate.

take about a week, you must stay there at least a week waiting for the visa

That's certainly best policy.

Have been few posts asking if you can exit prior to receiving eVisa approval email.

Not a good plan to do that.

Yes if the 60 day visa exempt option was still available I'd enter Thailand initially on that. No reason not to as at that point in time I wouldn't have been in Thailand for some 15 months so cant see an issue there

But certainly apply for SETV whilst in Vietnam or Cambodia but fancy Danang ideally

What if you pay daily at the reception of the hotel. Upload a receipt from the hotel?

Do they insist on an onward flight booking? Which is a pain in the behind, if you wanna extend, so stay 90 days, and booking required within 60 days.

A throw away ticket, with the current airfares, is just too expensive.

I assume they won't accept a rent a ticket?

My understanding is that you can just indicate a date etc for onward flight without proof of purchase.

Suggest make the exit date within the 60

Out of around 6 trips to Vietnam iver the past 2 or 3 years, and entering visa exempt at SGN, only once was I asked to show onward travel. I opened the booking confirmation on my phone but he just glanced at it, no notes taken or questions asked. That may have been on their previous 14-day visa exempt entry where the rules specified return flight. I think their updated, longer visa-exempt rules may have dropped that requirement.

Going off topic here but if the OP is planning a Vietnam trip, there are new rules specifically for SGN airport entry where an online digital arrival card needs to be filed before arrival, similar to the TDAC. I have posted info in the Vietnam forum.
