A motorcycle taxi rider passed away while waiting in line for a ₱5,000 fuel subsidy at Quezon City Memorial Circle on Saturday, April 18. Irene Dumlao, spokesperson for the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), confirmed the incident, stating that they are coordinating with the victim's family to provide necessary assistance, following the directive of DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian.

According to the rider's family, it is suspected that he suffered a heart attack, exacerbated by the hot weather conditions. Long queues had formed early in the morning as individuals awaited the financial aid distribution, linked to rising fuel prices due to conflict in the Middle East.

The DSWD has confirmed their engagement with the affected family and pledged to offer proper support to them in this difficult time. This incident highlights the challenges faced by those affected by increasing fuel costs, as well as the risks tied to extended exposure to extreme weather while waiting for essential aid.
