UK Passport Renewal - 60day visa exempt

Featured Replies

I'm visiting family, and my passport has got holes in the back page (nothing like a stapled 90 day report) and is up for renewal because it's running out of pages, but I'm on a 60-day visa exempt. My plan is I need to renew my passport and then go out to the country to get my non-O.

What documents would I need to prove my home address in Thailand to get the passport renewed? I have bank accounts here from previously living and working here, which can have my address on it, but I'm trying to understand what the proof of address is. I need to be out here by June 11th, which means my 60 days is up or an extension on top of that. Would I get an extension whilst my passport was away for renewal? Or am I just more sensible to return to the UK? I'll do the O visa and passport one after the other.

Your passport doesn't go away for renewal, you keep it. Nothing to stop you getting an extension.

You have to pay extra to keep it.

Yes. Times look within reason, more concerned about the 60 day thing and proof of address.

I've not lived at this house yet moved when I changed jobs. So only have bank statements from SCB

But any extension will only be until the date of expiry of the passport you use.

No you don't. Not when renewing through VFS in Thailand.

  • The "Keep My Passport" Service: This is a separate, paid service ($30–$60 depending on location) that allows you to hold onto your current valid passport while the new one is being processed. This is useful if you need to travel or provide ID while waiting. However, once the new passport is ready, you must still present the old one to be cancelled before the new one is released.

Nope. Nothing to do with a UK passport renewal in Thailand.

I have just renewed my UK passport (at VfS), so I can confirm that:-

1 You keep your existing passport while the application is being processed.

2; Your old passport is cancelled, (one corner cut off), and returned to you when your new one is issued.

Also; Existing visas etc. in your old passport, can be transferred to you new one at your local I/O.

Agree with you (nothing to pay extra to keep your uk passport during the renewal process) having just gone through the UK VFS passport renewal in bkk

Other recent threads refer to it taking about one month from submitting your passport renewal at vfs bkk until receiving your new passport at vfs bkk.

The UK do this for free

I used my Thai driving licence, but my friend used his Bangkok Bank statement, which must be in English. It takes about 2 weeks. You apply at VFS in Bangkok, and they let you know when the new passport is ready. You keep your old one at all times. When you collect the new one, they cut the corner off of your old passport and hand it back, so you still have all your stamps.

Not the same thing. He was referring to the time after submission.
