I live in the South of Thailand and visited the local labor office to ask if I can submit less docs this year bc this is my 5 yr of renewing the WP. I also asked if they could issue me a 2 yr WP this time.

The answer was yes to both.

He said theres a new online system. He helped me register and it all seems rather civilised. Its just a matter of scanning and uploading docs and paying online. My wife (employer) has to register also separately and upload some docs.

My question is...

''A copy of the foreigner's alien registration certificate and a copy of the certificate of domicile.''

I assume they want me to upload my yellow book? Shouldn't that say Or instead of And? Is the second one that irrelevant Certificate of Residence that one can pay a fee at Immigration. I had to get one 10 yrs ago for some reason. Its a pointless document IMHO

Can anyone clarify this?

I will probably only upload the yellow book and see what occurs.

Finally, he said that my old blue WP book is discontinued and a new card is issued at the labor office in the shopping centre. If anyone has one of these cards, what is on there exactly?

This deeply troubles me because I believe the new work permit card does not have your address on it, so it will no longer be able to be used to prove my address in renewing my driving licence.

My current WP (book) has not had an address for years !

On the reverse there is a qr code. If you scan the code it takes you to the Department of Employment website which has your details, including your photo, showing if your work permit is active or not.

Basically anyone can scan and instantly check if the permit is active, expired or fake.

Correct, there is no address on the new work permit card.

However, if you log in to your own personal online account your address is listed there (which you can edit and change yourself).

Some places may accept a signed printout

Thanks for your comment. Im in the thai citizenship program. Currently my app is in the 'black hole', along with thousands of other applicants, waiting for approval as such. If the MIA asks to see my new WP card, will it show every year that I held the work permit - including the dates from my old blue work permit? Does it show the full history?

The pink card shows the date your work permit starts and the date it expires (ie a 1 year or two year period starting on the usual date of your extension).

There is no reference to previous years.

The solution is that you keep your blue book when you change to a pink card, so you can present both to show continuity
