NAY PYI TAW, 25 April — Myanmar’s new president, Min Aung Hlaing, has met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in the capital, underscoring the junta’s push to deepen ties with Beijing.

During the talks, Min reaffirmed Myanmar’s commitment to the one‑China principle and described relations with Beijing as the country’s most important bilateral partnership. He voiced support for China’s four global initiatives and pledged to strengthen high‑level exchanges, accelerate the Myanmar‑China Economic Corridor, and maintain border stability.

The president also promised to intensify crackdowns on online gambling and telecom fraud, stressing that Myanmar would not allow activities harmful to China’s interests. He assured Beijing of measures to safeguard Chinese personnel, institutions and projects operating inside Myanmar.

Wang Yi, a member of the Communist Party of China’s Political Bureau, said China’s policy toward Myanmar remains unchanged. He reiterated Beijing’s firm backing for Myanmar’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, and its pursuit of a development path suited to national conditions.

Wang urged both sides to build a “community with a shared future,” aligning with the development needs of both nations. He pledged China’s cooperation in eradicating online fraud and gambling, and expressed support for Myanmar’s engagement with ASEAN and wider regional dialogue mechanisms.

The meeting highlights Beijing’s role as a crucial ally for Myanmar’s military leadership, which has faced international isolation since seizing power in 2021. For Min Aung Hlaing, elected president earlier this month by a military‑aligned parliament, the talks mark an early step in consolidating his position through closer ties with China.
