The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has issued a demand letter to LS8 Tourist Transport Corporation, requiring them to cover the repair costs of the EDSA-Ortigas Interchange in Manila. The demand follows an April 24 fire incident that exposed critical structural components of the bridge for about an hour. Initial inspections noted concrete spalling, exposed reinforcing steel bars, and discoloration indicating high temperature exposure.

The damage was identified during inspections by the Metro Manila 1st District Engineering Office and DPWH-NCR representatives. The DPWH states that the vehicle involved in the fire was owned by LS8 Tourist Transport Corporation, making them liable under applicable laws. LS8 is directed to fund both the immediate repairs and any further evaluations or permanent fixes needed for the bridge.

Alongside financial responsibility, the DPWH highlighted potential administrative, civil, or criminal implications against LS8. The agency urged immediate attention and compliance from the transport corporation. The current focus is on securing urgent repairs while determining long-term solutions to prevent similar incidents.

Future steps include comprehensive structural evaluations to ensure safety and resilience, and monitoring further compliance from LS8 Tourist Transport Corporation regarding the DPWH's demands.
