Jena Valve

Featured Replies

Has anyone had the above or had a friend who has ---I go to the Queen Siriikit hospital Khon Kaen -had check ups there for the last 12 years, they tell me they have done 6 of these operations with a heart surgeon from BKK to perform them. Of late my leaky Valve may have got worse---- very tired , not eating and when I walk its like walking in water. can sometimes sleep for 16 hours-- before (a 1 month ago) I would start the day with a 3 KLM walk do some light body weight exercises--- Yer thats all stopped I am 78. I dont know the name of the surgeon that comes up from BKK ---I am going for a scan on Saturday and will ask then--Money isn't a problem, I know when I say that some people will immediately say beauregard etc, but Queen S is a good heart hospital unlike others it only does heart's They have really up to date equipment, and it may be the same surgeon from there that fly's up to do the opp here.

Anyway anyone with experience or knows some one with some knowledge...be great for for a response

You are unlikely to find anyone who has received precisely this valve as it is quite new, even in the US.

If what you have is Aortic Regurgitation (as opposed to stenosis) this new valve system offers the previously unavailable option of a transcatheter approach (going through a peripheral blood vessel) to implant new valve rather than thoracic surgery. This is much preferred in patients over 75 due to less operative risk.

It is not the valve per se that is new but rather the insertion system which employs special technology for placement. The valve itself is a bioprosthetic and these have been used for many years.

The skill and experience of the surgeon in using the system is very important, and there are specific anatomical criteria involving size of the valve etc. I expect the scan you are scheduled for will assess this and determine if you are a candidate.
