Ho Chi Minh, Da Nang Top Thai Tourist Searches

Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang have topped search trends among Thai tourists for the National Labor Day and Coronation Day holiday. According to Agoda, Ho Chi Minh City searches surged by 134% from Thailand, with Da Nang experiencing a 58% increase. This trend comes amid expectations that domestic travel will decline due to rising living and energy costs in Thailand.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) notes that spiking costs have prompted Thai tourists to be more budget-conscious. Despite these financial pressures, international travel plans remain strong. Vietnamese cities are increasingly popular, as prospective travelers adjust their spending after the high expenditure during the Songkran festival.

TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool highlighted that the holiday will still generate substantial revenue, with an estimated 2.83 million Thai visitor-trips and about 10.05 billion THB (US$309 million) in circulation. Domestic travel, while less than expected, remains significant, with 64% average accommodation occupancy anticipated, partly driven by Thai tourists.

The Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) reveals that many Thais prefer to travel locally during this time. Travel plans range from day trips within provinces to nearby overnight stays. Only a small fraction are opting for travel across regions, reflecting a shift in preferences due to current economic challenges.
