Tourist's Rampage Ruins Bikes in Phuket

Featured Replies

A British tourist was caught vandalizing parked motorcycles in the Chalong subdistrict of Phuket, sparking outrage online. The incident involved a man, described as shirtless and in black shorts, wielding a knife to slash motorcycle seats and damage shop signage. His erratic behavior, caught on social media, was likened to that of someone possibly under the influence of drugs, according to witnesses.

The incident quickly gained attention after being posted on a popular local Facebook page. The video's wider dissemination fueled criticism and concern among users about the behavior of some tourists. Many online commentators expressed frustration over the recurring issue of foreign visitors engaging in disruptive activities, which can tarnish the reputation of tourism-heavy regions like Phuket.

Local media have extensively covered the situation, prompting discussions on how such incidents might affect the local community and its essential tourism industry. Experts suggest that such behavior highlights a need for stricter regulations or monitoring of tourist activities to prevent similar occurrences.

Authorities in Phuket are expected to review and potentially tighten regulations for tourists to ensure incidents like this do not recur. Meanwhile, the local expat and tourist communities are advised to remain respectful of public spaces and laws.

"....which can tarnish the reputation of tourism-heavy regions like Phuket."

Oh please! That reputation went down the pan years ago :)

Stop 'cosseting' druggies! Arrest them (with strong physical force if needed) and jail then for a statutory minimum of 6 months, plus heavy fine, plus deportation.

Why? Why on earth do you save up to go on holiday for a couple of weeks every year and then go and wreck other peoples' property? Something is mentally wrong with an entire generation. The WOKE has destroyed their fragile minds.

Fine, jail, deport, with no right of return.

Anyone else curious about what the guy's story is? That seems pretty off the wall. Even for a... (never mind).

"Authorities in Phuket are expected to review and potentially tighten regulations for tourists to ensure incidents like this do not recur. Meanwhile, the local expat and tourist communities are advised to remain respectful of public spaces and laws".... I would hope they would expect Thais to do the same.

"Experts suggest that such behavior highlights a need for stricter regulations or monitoring of tourist activities to prevent similar occurrences." just who are these "experts? Perhaps corralling all tourists, into a confined space, and forbiddening them from moving...mmm Phi Phi Yai would be a good prison location.

"can tarnish the reputation of tourism-heavy regions like Phuket," just how more "tarnished" can it get.. there's a lot of BS in this article...it certainly comes across as anti-foreigner.

The good ones stay home. The crims used to go down under, now Thailand!

Seems like people’s first inclination is to post this stuff on Facebook. Maybe call to the police first, then post on social media.

As an Aussie, I'm glad they didn't send you...we Aussies know they made a mistake, and only sent the best......

Why couldn't they tell us how they know he's a pom.

It seems for many people, social media 'likes' is the most important thing in their lives.

Ask the old leftie on here. They live for likes 55

Desperately need to introduce Singapore style caning, with the added feature of videoing the event and making it available to viewers worldwide.

Isn't there a few, self-proclaimed, on Aseannow?

agreed. It's this sort of activity that is damaging the reputation of Thai tourism, and the lack of firm action by authorities. I remember awhile back on Samui I think, a motorcyle cop tries to ticket two aussie brothers, they take off, he catches them, they knock him to the ground AND TAKE HIS GUN! All caught on video. In th USA they probably would have been shot. I'm from Canada and they would be in jail for sure. I think they just got sent home. Crazy.

“The Woke has…..”.

Mate, this thug is about as far from wokeism as Farridge is from being “Man of the people”.

It's idiots like this who make people like me look good. Now my neighbors are going to be thinking, "Hey, we got one of the good farangs." At least I hope that's what they're thinking.

This is a perfect example of a comment I made the other day. Smh.

What are you 12 ?

Arrest, beat, waterboard, charge, fine, imprison, hung, draw, quarter, set on fire, beat out the flames with a cricket bat, deport, lifetime ban and repeat.

That should keep a few of the anti Brit brigade on here happy.
