Myanmar activists slam Trump ally’s lobbying deal

Myanmar campaigners have condemned US political consultant Roger Stone for signing a lucrative contract to lobby on behalf of the country’s military-backed government, which remains under heavy international sanctions.

Filings in Washington revealed Stone, a long-time confidante of President Donald Trump, will earn US$50,000 a month through the DCI Group to provide “public affairs services” to Myanmar’s Information Ministry. His brief includes rebuilding ties with the United States, focusing on trade, natural resources and humanitarian relief.

Rights group Justice For Myanmar accused Stone and DCI of “profiting from a heavily sanctioned junta that is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity with total impunity”. The military seized power in 2021, ousting Aung San Suu Kyi’s elected government and plunging the country into civil war.

Western nations, including the US, have imposed sweeping sanctions on Myanmar’s generals and their associates, citing a half-decade of human rights abuses. Despite this, the regime has sought to rebrand itself, staging tightly controlled elections earlier this year that returned coup leader Min Aung Hlaing as president. Critics say the new civilian façade merely masks continued military rule.

Justice For Myanmar warned Stone’s lobbying would benefit state-owned enterprises accused of funding attacks on schools, churches and hospitals. “Roger Stone has joined this contract with international criminals,” the group said.

Stone, a veteran Republican operative, was previously sentenced to 40 months in prison for obstructing a congressional probe into Trump’s 2016 campaign, but his sentence was commuted by Trump.

The revelation underscores how Myanmar’s junta is attempting to rehabilitate its image abroad, even as rights monitors insist the country remains mired in repression and conflict.

While despicable (all lobbying is despicable) , it is understandable after being

ruined by democrat lawfare , that he makes some money in his buddy's administration.

At least he is not lobbying for big pharma/agro/tech or the defence companies

or even that small aggressive war country.

Wait to see him explain himself on AlexJonesNetwork
