Buriram Frog Hunter Says He Was Chased by Armed Cambodian Soldiers

A 63-year-old man from Buriram says he fled for his life after encountering armed Cambodian soldiers while frog hunting near the Thai-Cambodian border. Apirak Butphet said he was with two companions near a dam in Ban Kruat district when he noticed flashlights and assumed they belonged to other villagers. When he approached, he realised the group were soldiers carrying guns and knives, leading to confusion because they could not communicate clearly. Apirak said around ten soldiers chased him, forcing him to hide in bushes for roughly two hours and abandon his catch while his companions escaped separately. He claims the spot was 1 to 2 kilometres inside Thai territory, though the area is also known as a route for smuggling and contraband movement.
